USC School of Dramatic Arts invitation

We did call USC yesterday about the invitation. They confirmed that admission decisions would not be posted until Tuesday. There were some decent airfares from East Coast to LA as of Thursday night, I just hope they are still available come Tuesday if needed!

S received invitation last year and was admitted to BFA Acting 1 week later.

Hi actingmom! Was your S (junior BFA) in the production of The Arabian Nights? I saw it a few weeks back. Amazing!!!

Would definitly encourge potential students to attend end of term productions at USC very profesionally done, d is at SDA and does dance in spare time they put on a great show last year and are preparing another this year

Can anyone tell when did the invitation postmark?

AAAmberrrr, my son’s invite was postmarked the beginning of last week.

nifmom, thanks for your information!

Came back from vacation last night, so I am just now looking at mail from the past week. I also received the mysterious invite… Not getting my hopes up about anything yet, though I am very curious now. I honestly thought USC was my worst audition… that being said I’ve been rejected from schools I thought I totally rocked and accepted to a few I was unsure about. Guess we’ll find out soon though, I heard they are mailing out decisions tomorrow. What degree did you guys indicate you wanted?

Daughter received the invitation last Wednesday. She auditioned for BFA and at the auditions they also did an interview (in L.A.). She said that she would be happy to get admitted to BFA or BA program during her interview. The BA would allow her to do the Musical Theatre minor through the School of Music. BFA does not. I was happy to find this thread because we have been wondering what the invitation meant since it says at the bottom that the invitation does not indicate acceptance. But why would they spend from 9:30 - 6:30 with you , feed you and give you show tickets if it wasn’t a hint? I do remember the first time we went to USC 1-1/2 years ago though. We met with an admissions counselor in School of Drama and he said with a BFA it is 60% department decision and 40% admissions decision. With BA it is 60% admissions decision, 40% department decision. He said you increase you chances by applying to both (if you really would be happy with either). So she applied BFA and said she would be happy with BA. It will be great if she really does get in (and we can get some financial aid), but we must wait to see the final decision. It should come Wednesday. We are in Orange County. Keeping my fingers crossed for all you talented theatre students!

My son auditioned for the BFA program. Fingers crossed. We live on the East Coast so I am assuming my son won’t get his letter until Thursday. Good luck to you!

For those unfamiliar with the merit scholarships at SC, Muttle1’s son received the Dean’s Scholarship. This scholarship is worth close to $50,000. Last year only 100 out of SC’s entire entering freshmen class received that scholarship.

Anybody else checking and rechecking USConnect today??? Nothing yet!

didn’t USC state on their website that they will not post admission decisions online until March 29th?

S called last week, and the person in the School of Dramatic Arts said it would be posted today. Just called regular Admissions, and they said mailed today and will be posted online on Friday. Sigh.

Casadelewis, I agree with your strategy and have heard the same thing you have about applying for BFA and BA as back-up. The USC Admissions blog said the letters have been mailed today, so I’m really hoping we get a lot of good news for our cc kids who like USC.

we got the invitation in the mail, and my d’s acceptance package arrived in the mail today! they were all mailed yesterday. they don’t post online until friday. we live in los angeles, so that was why we got it so quickly. she got accepted to the BA program.

Congratulations jjsmom1! My S is graduating from USC with a theatre minor. He has loved his time there.

Great news, jjsmom1. My son is getting a BA, so let me know if you need any info.

Hi my son got into he BA program. He was accepted to other bfa programs but really likes usc and the idea of living in LA. How are the BA students treated compared to the BFA? Thanks.

Muttie…My S and I just got back from a tour of the SDA’s at USC. One of the things that impressed my S was that the BA’s and BFA’s were very similar. They both get to audition for all but 1 of the MANY shows and productions, which is pretty unusual. Also, 20 or so BA’s get to audition to be included in the showcase Senior year. My S LOVED the program, and felt he would be just as happy with the BA there, if he doesn’t get into the BFA. If he hasn’t visited it is definitely worth a look. My S wasn’t thrilled with the campus itself( hated the way you really couldn’t go off campus), but he will be auditioning next yeat.
