@snowdencole will pm you.
My D was a spring transfer admit. She took 3 semesters at local CC and all but one course transferred. She had a lot of friends who entered in the fall and was able to reconnect them when she started in January. It was the only U she applied to and was thrilled to be admitted. She and we have no regrets. Fight on!
Does your son have information on spring admits getting bumped into fall?
I have all the same questions! Hopefully someone has the answers!
I do know that it is not helpful to email Admissions that you would like to be considered as a fall admit. If a spot opens up, they have a list and move down it based on major/school and where the hole they are filling came from. They realize that EVERY spring admit would rather be a fall admit. Admissions put out a post or blog or something stating this last year.
@lifebreath Congrats on your son’s admittance! would you care to share some of his application stats? I applied to transfer to the Music Industry program and am very curious about what they look for in applications.
@markspencer22 I can do that, but I don’t think it will be very meaningful, because there are so many other factors. Also, your being a transfer is comparing apples to oranges.
Honestly, call up Thornton and ask. They will let you know, especially as a transfer. My son and I met with the program director last year, and he told us straight up what he looks for. He also put out some academic numbers, and they were a little lower than what you might expect. My impression was that everyone needs to meet the university standards, but there’s some flexibility, since there’s a supplemental application to Thornton, and the Thornton people are involved in the process.
Having said all that, here you go:
SAT: 1530 (taken once); WGPA: 4.7 (end of fall) and rigorous schedule; creating music and producing on DAW since 6th grade; writing, recording and producing for others for pay all through HS; composed music for a couple of iPhone games and had some contractual documentation to submit; very strong writing skills and Statement of Purpose; very strong short videos in response to Music Industry prompts; helped organize and manage a new teens’ stage/entertainment area at our city’s 3-day music and food festival; strong supplemental materials. He is not a performing musician.
Good luck!
Does anyone know how to appeal? Not necessarily looking to email AO’s directly but if there’s an official way to appeal Spring admission I would like to try that out.
@azforpres I think that sound like a bad idea and/or a waste of time to appeal spring admit. They specifically tell you NOT to do this. If there is a spot that becomes available in your college, they will contact you mid May.
@azforpres I second @reservationsfor3. Appealing a Spring admission is not advisable.
Hey, couple of questions for fellow spring admits/people who have gone through the spring admit process:
- I don’t mind not being able to start USC til spring, but really bummed that spring admits can’t apply to T.O. Is there any similar alternative that I could apply for/get involved with once I get on campus?
- As far as housing goes, I am under the impression that generally spring admits don’t get placed in freshman dorms very frequently, let alone with a requested roommate. I’m not sure if I would rather not request a roommate and hope to be placed in freshman dorms, or request a roommate that I would very much like to live with and likely be placed in undergraduate on campus apartment-style living.
Is anyone on here more familiar with spring admit housing and what it usually entails? Thank you!
