@Diplovsn I agree with Wakgood. Anyone who is not an instate resident has to fight for the 10% of spots in the class size that are out-of-state students and international students. Coupled with this, your GPA when transferring to UT is notoriously the most important factor when getting admitted. People applying to ECE at Cockrell will have 3.8+ GPA’s. Even if you explain the low GPA in the essays, they still have other 4.0 applicants applying for the limited amount of space. However, there is always a chance. Good luck!
I’m a sophomore at ACC, I have 70-ish credit hours (a lot of them are from high school)
3.9 GPA.
Applying to COLA : Geography
Ok essays, no rec letters, good resume. Mystatus says I’m “incomplete” so I have time to get the details together.
I qualify for “automatic transfer admission” but I’ve been having trouble with it. I’ve called the admissions office and I get different answers each time. I also emailed them and they never answered, it’s been a week. I don’t know if I should call again because the people that answer always seem so rude. I don’t want to bother them too much, but I have unanswered questions. It seems like every time I call the admissions office, I hang up with even more confusion.
@rusalochkaa Okay. What questions do you have? I assume you completed all the requirements that are stated on the webpage for automatic transfer admission
@djcholo I believe you need to have graduated high-school or earned a GED and spent some time at another institution to be considered a transfer. This is according to the transfer-admission site.
my advisor at the two-year college that i attend told me that if i retake a dual-credit class that i failed in high school, the grade will replace. i have been retaking them, and received an A that I thought would replace the D. So UT will actually just average the two out?
Your advisor is referring only to the community college’s internal “forgiveness” policy on repeated courses. UT Austin will include all grades from each occurrence of repeated courses in your admission GPA.
@awesomesaucee hey could you add me to the list? Sent in my ApplyTexas last night for Government with a 3.41, two KILLER essays (obviously topic A and I chose topic C), 600-700+ volunteer hours (mostly from HS as that was within the 5 year time frame), and so far one really good LOR from an alumnus (working on getting a second) - and while you’re at it, do you think that I have even a glimmer of hope of getting in? If it helps I have somewhere over 30 hours thanks to AP credits AND I’m applying for the summer semester.
Applying to the Cockrell School of Engineering for Fall 2018 from Texas A&m Cstat
First Choice: Mechanical Engineering
Second Choice: Environmental Engineering
Tamu GPA: 3.916
5 Rec Letters (1 from cal 3 prof, 1 from engineering prof, 1 from a civil engineer, 2 from Hs teachers)
My essays will probably be good but not fantastic
Like 60 hours of volunteer work
Good EC’s (3 Tamu engineering clubs, the rest was from HS)
Completed: Cal 1,2,3 , Cal Physics Mech/E&M, Gen Chem & its lab, Engineering 1
Currently taking: Dif Eq, Statics & Particle Dynamics, Material Science, Engineering 2
After this semester I’ll have 43 hours and a bunch of unaccepted AP credit
I got a tactical nuke in Mw2
@J3ennife4 added you to the list. Your GPA is on the lower side for transfers but your volunteering and essays might out weigh that. There is a solid chance. Good luck
@elijahtom added you. Your chances are pretty good with the GPA but Cockrell is always a tossup. However, your nuke might hurt you for environmental engineering
Hey guys, hoping someone could shed some light on my chances to getting in
GPA Overall as of now: 3.42 (this is because I got all B’s and one B- in Dual Credit which was 15 hours)
Made all A’s last semester (which was my first semester of College)
28 hours completed, will have 42 by the end of the spring 2018 Semester
Completed the two essays, went to writing lab for help and the lady there said they were good
Getting two recommendation letters
Applied to Liberal Arts for Gov and History
In short: application is completed with essays, just need to submit resume and letters of rec
Played year round sports in high school-- though haven’t joined a club at CC except Slow pitch softball
Was on High Schools TAPPS Academic team Junior and Senior year, we came in second place senior year
I am an Eagle Scout and was involved in the Scouts all throughout high school, i.e Patrol Leader and helped guys with Eagle Scout projects
Ran two marathons, Texas Triple 2017, Dallas Marathon 2017
Have a part time job at workout facility with in addition to umpiring baseball previously
Have over 190 Volunteer hours
But my main worry is my dual credit. We had dual credit offered through our local community college, and through John Brown University which is how I made my B- (aka 2.7, aka transfer killer)
Will this Dual credit reflect poorly on my GPA? Or will it make me look better since there has been an upward trend in my academic success? I would really appreciate it if anyone would have some insight into this since I’ve been worrying about this for the past several days. Thanks!!
@Thompson2688 They will notice the upward trend of your grades, but UT is notoriously focused on the overall GPA. I think you still have a good shot with your extracurricular activities. Good luck! I added you to the transfer list
