Thank you for the Clarification, really appreciate it! I have one more question though. Should I wait to send my entire transcripts, including this semester, or wait so if I raise my overall GPA up, it will look better. I know it’s a dumb question I’d just like some clarification.
I hope everyone here gets in !
@Thompson2688 They will require you to send your transcript with your spring grades before they make a decision, because you have less than 30 hours by the time you are applying. It should not make a difference
@utcshopeful Thanks!!! I want this so bad l. The wait is killing me
@J3ennife4 make sure that your AP credits on your transcript define the classes (at your present school) you are getting credited for. My daughter has 26 hours of AP credit, but because on the official transcript it just says 26 hours and not the individual classes they encompass, they will not count those to admit her. If she gets admitted, we can send the collegeboard transcript to them in order to get credited for those classes (they also will not allow collegeboard transcript to be sent to them for admittance). It’s so frustrating that her college has them listed on her unofficial transcript (in order to use for their records) but because the classes were not taken on their campus, they will not put them on her transcript…no matter how much pleading. They wrote a letter to UT stating that, however UT said that if it isn’t on the official transcript, they won’t look at it. She now has to wait until May in order for her to get reviewed. Also, make sure all your credits transfer. Of her 32 class credits, 7 of them are Honors class credits that she is required to take, but don’t match anything at UT. Also, I believe they lowered the transfer units to 24 not 30.
@awesomesaucee I believe they changed it from 30 down to 24. That is what is listed on my daughters application and what the admissions person told me when we talked about my daughters crazy transcript issues…also, for your accounting…
Daughter is trying to transfer from Colorado state (Texas resident though).
She has 26 Ap credits (not individually listed in transcript), 32 hours in May (at least 24 have been confirmed as transferable…not sure what they do with Honors classes that they don’t have…she has 7 hours there).
Biology major 3.71 GPA
2 good essays
1 LOR from AP Bio teacher (who is currently in her masters at UT)
Crossing fingers since I’d love her to be closer. Good luck all!
@tigger68 Hmm thats interesting. It still states on the CNS website students
“must have 30 transferable credit hours complete or “in progress” at the time of submitting the application. Students who apply to the College of Natural Sciences with 30 hours “in progress” will be considered on a space-available basis after the 30 hours are complete.”
You could be right though.
I also added your daughter to the list!
@awesomesaucee I’m pretty sure they changed the required hours from 30 to 24 for fall applicants. That’s why I was wondering about my transcripts. Thanks again for the help!
@awesomesaucee I noticed that some of last years acceptances happened as early as april. How is this possible? I thought UT required the final semester transcript in order to make their decision?
@Thompson2688 Okay great! Thats good information to have.
@elijahtom If you already have 30 credit hours or over (apparently they switched it to 24 this year), then they will make your decision without the need of your spring semester transcript. Those who already have enough hours will receive their decisions earlier, usually starting around mid-April, and those who don’t have enough hours will only receive their decisions after they submit their spring transcript sometime in mid-May to June.
Called UT admission and they said if you already have the 24 hours completed then they will look at your admission regardless even if you are currently taking hours. However, they did say that if you are declined that you can petition them with your spring grades and they’ll reconsider admission. Hope this clears it up.
@awesomesaucee Thats interesting. I’d definitely rather hear back sooner so I dont have to stress about getting all A’s in my current courses. I did notice that a lot of the engineers had 30+ and still didn’t get accepted until June. Is that just how it is? Do some people still not know until later?
its 24
im pretty sure
@elijahtom Yep that usually how it goes. People with over 30 hours usually hear back mid-April, but for the more competitive majors/schools like McCombs and Cockrell and CS, results can take longer because they get so many applicants. Some people applying to these schools don’'t hear back until late-may or June even if they have over the required hours.
@J3ennife4 I know this is random but I called UT admission today, (they probably hate me by now for calling twice in one week), and they said it would be easier to get in during the fall since there are usually more spots open. I wanted to check this, in case I should apply twice, and I had remembered someone on this forum was applying the Summer of 2018.
Add me to the list?

I have some required courses for engineering in progress but an admissions counselor told me it only matters that they are in progress and I won’t have to send in spring grades because I have over 24 hours, do any of y’all know if this is true?
@jbengineer I’ll add you to the list.
You don’t need to send in your spring grades to get an admissions decision, but if you get an acceptanflce, you will want to send them in to get credit for the courses you are currently taking
@jbengineer I just reread your question and I realized you are asking if they need to see that you passed the required courses. I was under the impression that they need to make sure you passed the required courses before theyboff we yoy admission, but I’m not completely sure…
@awesomesaucee yeah idk it seems kinda weird to me but that’s what they said, I mean I do prefer it that way though lol
When considering the 24 hours of coursework required to transfer in Fall 2018, does this include AP credits acquired in high school? Just trying to see how early I’ll hear back
@nervous5135 only if those credits were accepted by your current school and are listed on your transcript. Otherwise, they won’t be counted
