Ok guys, looking through last years fall thread I found some useful information. A user called admissions and was told that COLA had decreased the amount of seats for transfer, but I don’t know if this is the case for this fall of 2018. I’m gonna call and ask the available seats, if they’ve increased or decreased, and the amount of students that have applied.
Does anyone have any info on how heavy LoR are weighted? The people at admissions say they don’t really care about it but Idk bout that
GPA>course density > Ecs> Essays > lor
@rtfhopeful the admissions committee doesn’t care about most LOR because most don’t offer a unique perspective that they already know about. If you’re good at Math and you get a recommendation from a Math teacher saying you’re a good student, that’s not helpful because they can already see it on your transcript. They want letters from people that can provide additional information about you that isn’t obvious from your transcript, resume, and essays
@Thompson2688 I would ask you to ask about Computer Science spots also, but I really don’t want to know
@awesomesaucee I will. When I called they were experiencing a high number of calls, so I’ll try in about an hour or so cuz I got class.
Where else are the CS guys applying? Any thoughts on UT Dallas?
@jumpo69 I’ve already been accepted to UT Dallas, and that is probably where I will be attending if I don’t get into UT CS
What’s the calculus requirement for CNS? Admissions said that as long as you were calculus-ready, it would be fine. I’m in calculus 1 regardless.
@colanxgirl where do you see if you met the requirements in MyStatus? lol I must be blind!
@colanxgirl Never mind, I found it, I think. It says I have greater than 60 hrs but I don’t! Ah well. Hopefully, everything else will be good enough.
@stoppingtheworld their is no requirement for CNS transfer. They just state to for you to have good grades in science and math courses, as well as a good grade in calculus to be competitive. You can still apply without calculus finished
https://cns.utexas.edu/students/future/external-transfer#competitive-admission-standards
"To be most competitive, students should have:
-Demonstrated interest and ability in their desired field
-Strong overall grade-point average (GPA)—see our Transfer Statistics for more information
-Credit for Calculus
-A minimum of nine credit hours in first year math and science courses for science majors
- grade of A or B in all math and science courses"
Yea I was accepted to UT Dallas too.
Maybe I’ll see you there. But hopefully we’ll get into Austin
ok so becuz everyone asking im gonna ask too:))
Cs major, Transfering with gpa 3.79,43 credits(58 with this semester) got A for cal 1 and 2
2LOR
pretty good essays
average resume
ik i dont have a big chance but… myaabee who knows:))
what do y’all think?
@Aliklz Depends on the spots along with your competition. CS seems to be pretty popular but your stats for the college aren’t bad. You should be in position to be at least competitive.
Computer science major
Lol I sadly have no other backup universities, if I don’t get into UT Austin this is going to be bad
2 questions. I apologize in advance for the wall of text:
-
I have government selected as my major I’m applying to as of right now. I’m doing so with the intent to transfer internally to either econ or McCombs (huuuuuge reach). However, I’ve become really interested in CS recently. I’m a second semester ACC student and I’ll have 27 hours at the end of my current semester. I had a 4.0 for fall and I’m thinking I’ll finish spring with a 4.0 as well. My problem is that I haven’t taken any upper level college math or science courses whatsoever. I took Calc AB in high school and I’m in the process of studying to CLEP out of it, but that’s it. I also have a decent amount of knowledge in HTML and I’m pretty good with swift. Is it even worth applying or should I stick with my original plan?

I was told by one of the COLA reps that UT may end up not allowing external transfer students to transfer internally between colleges (ex. COLA–>Moody), anyone have any more info on this?
Thanks and good luck to everyone.
@bullrider420 You listed economics as one of the majors you would be trying to transfer into. Econ is in the College of Liberal Arts and is not as competitive as McCombs or CS. If you applied directly from ACC to econ, you would have a great shot with a 4.0.
I would do that, but unfortunately Calc I and Calc II are required to be considered for admission to Econ. My plan is to CLEP out of Calc I and, if possible, take Calc II through an online CC or at ACC so that it doesn’t drag my GPA down.
