Yea so apparently I had an F in history from 8 years ago that popped up on my transfer audit. I don’t even remember it because that was back when I was low key addicted to xanex. I talked about dropping out of college my first semester so maybe they won’t take a history class against me when I have a 3.94 gpa without it.
Ut Dallas dropped the F cuz I retook it and got an A. Not sure if uta will do the same
@jumpo69 UT Austin will count both attempts unfortunately
@awesomesaucee @colanxgirl Mine seems to be good, is yalls fixed yet?
Back to being complete.
@awesomesaucee I talked to tamu and they said since it was so long ago and that it wasn’t a science/math course they probally wont hold it against me. Hopefully they break break gpa down on math/science courses
@Thompson2688 @colanxgirl Mine is fixed and just says complete as well
@jumpo69 Texas has a law called “Fresh Start” where classes taken 10 or more years ago can be discarded and won’t be looked at in your admissions decision. I would call UT Austin and ask, but they might not be as lenient considering you said the class you received an F in was only 8 years ago. (Also take note that “Fresh Start” will remove ALL grades from 10 years ago. If you choose to take it, you can’t pick and choose which credit’s are counted and which ones are discarded.)
@jumpo69 I had two F’s and I spoke with an advisor who said I definitely needed to invoke fresh start (which I did); my classes were over 10 years old though. I received an F in English and History, but I retook those courses and received grades of “As”.
If for any reason you don’t get in this semester, I would try and apply in the spring (if your desired school allows that) and find a way to address that F in one of your essays. I wouldn’t focus so much on the why, but what you did to overcome it. Of course, I’m no expert, but I think you’ve shown growth within your academic career.
My brother-in-law applied to medical school and was diagnosed with narcolepsy. Once he was diagnosed and put on the correct medicine, his grades began to soar (not that they were bad before, but he was able to focus a lot more). He spoke about how he overcame that struggle and improved his grades. He got into medical school so I guess that was a good thing! He was also a starting pitcher at his school and managed to keep his grades up so that was helpful too.
I think to let them know you take responsibility for the situation and expressing how you improved yourself would be a positive way to discuss your particular situation. I say to address this for spring not knowing how you addressed it in your essays for fall; you may have already done this!
I also had someone write a letter explaining some of my personal struggles and how far I’ve come in spite of very difficult circumstances, so that is something to consider as well.
I do wish you a lot of luck and I hope you get in! It sounds like we are close in age (I’m 30)… I did a tour on the campus and I felt so old; especially since my back was hurting and my carpal tunnel was acting up. My husband kept teasing me about being ancient.
Anyway, I am babbling. I am rooting for you though! Hopefully, a minor blip will not stop you from getting in especially since it was long ago!!!
PS - You might also try appealing with a letter should the worst happen. I am not sure about the best way to go about it, but maybe if you provide a solid explanation they’ll reconsider. I know other people have not said too many positive things about appealing, but I think it’s worth a shot. The worst that can happen is that you’re in the same position and you try again! Anyway, that’s my two cents and I hope it helps.
@OGmandyV Thank you so much for your kind words. I addressed that I struggled during highschool and dropped out after one semester in junior college. Do you think I could invoke freshstart even though I’ve already applied? I am regretting even sending my transcript from CJC because the only classes I have from them is comp 1, psychology, and history all from spring 2009.
@jumpo69 I hope they take into consideration how much you’ve grown. Unfortunately, you have to wait ten years to use Fresh Start. I would encourage you to contact UT and speak with an advisor if possible. They may be able to let you know how much it affects your situation unless you’ve already done so!
@jumpo69 I forgot how to do it, but I was snooping around on some subcategory on MyStatus and found my transfer audit. I was able to see a college summary where I would get a percentage of how much I have completed toward my major.
My application says it has been cancelled?!??? Has anyone seen this before? I had every document in prior to the deadline of 3/1. Please help if anyone knows!!
@transfer201831 Call the school asap
Will do first thing in the morning! I’m super nervous. I’ve been checking once per day to see if it had gone into review and this is what I find this evening :((
So if you get accepted to UT, once you get there will your GPA reset? I believe that they only take the credit from your previous college/colleges but I’m not entirely sure.
Yes, your GPA is only calculates using courses taken at UT
Does anyone know the cutoff gpa for BME?
@transfer201831 did everything turn out okay with your app? Gosh, I really hope so. Rooting for you!
Thank you! So, in 2005 I attended a CC where I withdrew from classes. My transcript says something about being on probation there, so I need to get a letter from them saying that I am eligible to return to the college in order to appeal I’m working on it :)]
@transfer201831 Oh yeah, that would do it. Good luck buddy! Keep us updated
