UT austin 2017/2018 Transfer Thread

@Zeoxys CS hear back mid April?

the sure in applicants (4.0) hear back relatively quickly

Iā€™ve never seen an applicant with a 4.0 and all pre-reqs completed get rejected from their major (for UT purposes)

@Zeoxys Me neither. Doesnā€™t stop me from worrying tho :frowning:

@Fudgerino Not everyone. Some hear back in May. You are also international so I think those come out at a different time than anyone else, whether it be earlier or later.

international students all hear back earlier :https://admissions.utexas.edu/apply/decisions

it says ā€œSummer/Fall (Transfers):
June 15
International Applicants: Late Mayā€

or 2 weeks earlier at most :stuck_out_tongue:

I think those are just dates are just the latest you will hear back by. Everyoneā€™s decision times will be all over the place, whether you are international or resident. However, in general I think they want to give international students their decisions earlier so they have more time to move and matriculate to the school.

Yea I just really hope they get back to me before May 1st cause I have to make my admission decision to my other top school by then. ): this truly sucks.

@awesomesaucee ok cool cool. For the civil thing, I saw that a lot of mechanical engineers who got denied accepted civil as their second choice. I was basically wondering if changing mechanical to compsci would have any effect on the likelihood of me being offered civil, (does having engineering as both choices appeal to the school more).

Edit: Nevermind, I realized that Iā€™m kind of set on computer science, so I donā€™t see a reason to keep civil as a risky second choice. That being said, do you have reccomendations for a compsci majors second choice? Sorry Iā€™m asking you so much, but you seem to know your stuff

@elijahtom None of this is 100% confirmed, just what I have observed, but I think what you mentioned would be correct. If you are applying for a school and have your second major in the same school, you have a higher likelihood of getting offered the second major. The reason for this being because the applications are sent to the individual schools, so the same school can evaluate you on the spot for the fit of your second major.

Tbh, I put Electrical and Computer engineering as my second choice to computer science. I donā€™t really expect to get offered it if I get denied from CS, but in the off chance that I do, I would still attend UT. I wonā€™t attend UT if I am not in the CS or ECE program.

If international student has established their residency, do they have a higher chance to be admitted comparing to other international students?

If you do not get into your chosen school, could you possibly be admitted to the school but as a general studies major or are you out of luck? I had thought I would apply to Moody and COLA, but now Iā€™m thinking I should change my second major to Moody. Thereā€™s a similar program in COLA to my first choice, just a bit different in certain classes you would take. Any thoughts or input before these go into review.

So do they go through everything and make sure you have everything you need as far as the minimum amount of credits and then send your application to that specific school and that school determines if you are admitted? Does that mean we are now just waiting on our different schools to start looking at the applications since they say we are complete? Iā€™m just getting nervous about finding an apartment! I feel like I have a good shot but I donā€™t want to move ahead with finding a place to live and then be rejected.

@prayingUTGuy01 On your MyStatus it will say if you are a resident, or something else. If it says you are international, you have the same odds as the other international students. If you are a resident of TX, then I would advise making sure that you are being evaluated as an in-state resident, because they receive an admissions advantage.

@OGmandyV by general studies, do you mean like someone who is undeclared on their major? I didnā€™t think UT allowed or recommended anyone to apply to an undeclared major because they want transfers coming in knowing what they want to do so they can graduate on time.

I think putting COLA as your second major is fine. Many people get offered their COLA second choice. It only starts getting questionable when you are putting super-competitive majors as your second choice like business, cs, etc.

@colanxgirl Yes, I believe that is how admissions works. Applicants are compared to other applicants at the same school and major (Engineers compared other engineers, etc). I think right now we are waiting for our specific colleges to receive our applications.

@Zeoxys Really?! I pray that thatā€™s true for international applicants as well haha. @awesomesaucee RIP the worrying grows worse and worse as the days pass. Iā€™m hopeful since I should meet the criteria but I canā€™t help but feel scared to learn my decision.

Iā€™m really excited for my decision. Partly because I live at home and am ready for University life lol.

Oh just wondering, does anyone know if UT rejects admits after they send in their spring grades? For example letā€™s say you have a 4.0 in the Fall but then you get a B or C in one subject during the spring? Can they rescind the offer?
