UT austin 2017/2018 Transfer Thread

@jumpo69 Did your friend who got into CS get accepted recently?

@awesomesaucee Im sorry it was last year, but he received his decision mid April.

He also mentioned how difficult it is to actually get into some cs classes because of how overcrowded they are.

@Zeoxys correction: I meant my GPA is currently 3.85

@awesomesaucee are you applying to any other colleges?

The nightmare for me is: with a 4.0 still get rejected !

@prayingUTGuy01 I would kill to have your GPA. I wouldn’t even hesitate. (obviously I’m joking). But in all honesty which college inside of UT did you apply to?

In the same position as you

Im stressin

@maib121

I’m a Finance major minoring in Economics.
Mays is a decent Business school. In all honesty, it’s probably your second best alternative for an undergraduate business education in Texas for its cost.

In terms of an education, it’s been mostly positive so far. Classes are challenging but nothing too out of the way.
In addition, most of the business professors do a good job of teaching in my opinion.
As a finance major, there are some great programs such as Titans Investing (portfolio/ asset management), TRIP (trading risk, investment for energy), Corporate Finance program, Aggies on Wall street (IB) and others.

However, I believe there is a significant gap between Mays and McCombs.
Mays has good resources and will probably get you a good job in Texas however if you want career opportunities outside of Texas, McCombs is the way to go. The average McCombs BBA graduate makes more than the average Mays BBA as well. (around 64k vs 56k)

For me personally, the biggest advantage for transferring into UT would be saving money.
I have my permanent address in Austin and I plan on commuting. I would save over 10k a year in living expenses by attending UT Austin.

Congrats on getting into Mays, if you want to pursue a business related career, Mays would be a decent 2nd choice if you don’t get into McCombs.

College Station isn’t nearly as lively as Austin but it could be worse tbh.
I was originally scared about coming into a “red neck, close minded, cult university” but it’s not that bad.
People are generally nice and one thing I will say that I prefer at A&M is that the environment isn’t as cutthroat as UT’s.

None of our classes are graded on a curve (McComb’s is) and we don’t use a plus/minus system.
I feel like classmates are more likely to help each other out since we’re not directly competing against each other, only against our selves. (every person in theory can earn in A in a class)

In an environment like McCombs, not everyone can earn an A since classes are graded on a curve so it creates a lot more competition and stress in my opinion and people aren’t as willing to help.

I know I’m rambling but I hope this gives you a better idea

Lastly, another big reason why I want to attend UT is just personal pride.
A lot of my friends all went to UT Austin, and I want to join in on the fun :^)

@awesomesaucee . @misskatherine

It should be noted that for McCombs, you must be within your first long 4 semester at UT and have no more than 90 hours at the time of your application if you want to try an internal transfer into McCombs.

Here is the link the the official website
https://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/Home/My/BBA/Internal-Transfer

Internally transferring into McCombs can be a huge hit or miss.
If you play the system, it can be quite easy or can be quite difficult.

I heard they’re trying to make it more “holistic for internal transfers” but I’m not too sure how holistic they’ll make it.

In the past for internal McCombs transfers, it was literally just a gpa cut off.
A computer just ranks all the gpas, and makes cut offs based on the number of spots.

What people would do is they would take their pre-reqs at a community college. For internal transfers, transfer grades and dual credit grades don’t count. It’s only your internal UT Austin gpa.

People could take 24 hours of elective credits and internally transfer into McCombs just solely off of gpa.

If you set up your schedule right and get a bunch of high A ratio classes with easy, professors, maintaining a 4.0 isn’t too difficult to say the least.

Last year’s McCombs internal gpa cut off was around a 3.85. I seen some people with high 3.7’s and low 3.8’s get denied.

@maib121 Nope. UT is the only school. I either go to Austin or UTD

@Zeoxys Yeah. I just gave her the option of trying to internally transfer to McCombs because she asked if there was another way, but I definitely would not advising doing so. You are right that it is really hit or miss

@maib121 Hey, you’ve mentioned that you had previously applied to UT with one of the prereqs pending (Calc 2), but haven’t mentioned anything about the decision you had received. Could you please share it with us?

I’ve applied to the Cockrell School of Engineering with over 24 credits + 8 high school transfer credits and a cgpa of 4.0, but will not have completed Calculus 2 before the end of Spring’18.

Please let me know what decision you were previously given.

Nursing

@prayingUTGuy01 Oh you should be fine man! Unless there’s something you forgot then you should be totally fine.

@sean191297 I believe you will be denied if you don’t have the requirement completed when you send your spring transcript

I mean, it is a requirement after all

Hello, I am applying to transfer to UT Austin. I currently go to a nationally ranked college in Massachusetts but would be going back to Texas for in state tuition.

I have 29 credits at Umass-Lowell with a 3.93
18 ACC dual credit courses taken in High School with a 3.7 GPA there
1310 SAT, top 10% in my class in high school. High School GPA 4.0

First Choice was Mccombs but I do not have 1 of the prerequisites (Calc 2)
Second Choice was Advertising in Communications School.

I am curious to see if anyone has any knowledge if I will get into UT? I am pretty sure I will not get into Mccombs because I do not have one of the prerequisites but I am hopeful that I will get into Adversiting.

Does anyone have any insight on this? It would be a huge help

@awesomesaucee Why would I be denied when I send my Spring Transcript? I am currently taking the last of my Prereqs this semester (Spring’18). I should be able to receive a grade by the first week of May.

@sean191297

Is this a typo then? You said you wouldn’t have it done before the Spring semester ended, which means you wouldn’t have it completed on your spring transcript that you send.
