@cb3cb3 thank you!! I included only my updated high school transcript and my updated college transcript. In my appeal letter I just put a strong emphasis on my unique situation at my high school and how I already have almost 60 hours of credit hours. I did not have to reapply as a transfer applicant. However, when my appeal got accepted, I did have to write an additional essay and was given the choices of topics C, D, or E. All of the other application materials like LORs and resumes are transferred over from your freshman app to your transfer one. Hope this is helpful! Good luck!!
@champagnemami123, thank you!!
@thistlex33 Class rank is and always has been used as part of holistic review. an AI formula is applied to every applicant for every major at UT AI is a combination of scores and rank- nothing else. It is then Graphed on a chart with PAI( which is all the holistic parts of your app- essays, resume etc) and the people in the top of both areas are admitted, these were in place twenty years ago when UT was taken to court over admission policy and they remain in tact. I donāt believe that UT disregarded their policy which has been in place for DECADES. I think your school counselor either got it wrong or misunderstood. or quite possibly she didnāt take the time to understand the process enough to prepare students to apply competitively to UT. go to the UT criteria list and Rank has always been on there. it is not just that rank gets you into the university as an auto admit but each college inside UT uses Rank to admit to their majors. I have seen stats on a lot of OOS kids and you can tell by the diversity of their numbers that the AI/PAI is still very much in play.
Just to clarify, we should be expecting roughly a two-week waiting policy?
Hey guys. I was diagnosed with ADHD this previous summer and as a result of treatment my GPA for my senior year is 11 points higher than any previous year. I did mention my diagnosis in my original application but did not have the transcript to show my improvement (which I have now). Do you think this is a good reason to appeal? Also Iām new here. What are some circumstances that people appealed for and were admitted?
@jackl123 I was a top 7% student and got rejected because of a late transcript the first time, however I appealed and got automatically accepted. I had to pester them a bit to check on my appeal because I think they get so many they donāt have time to go through them all, and I wanted to know before I decided on other colleges. Unfortunately Iām got in with an undecided majorā¦if I choose to go to ut austin, Iād have to to do internal transfer to engineering or natural science schoolā¦
Why not try @jackl123?
Glad to see this thread. My son appealed his McCombs rejection on 2/4 and is still waiting to hear back. Heās auto admit, 9/590, 1440 SAT and pretty devastated. Hubby and I both graduated from McCombs in ā94 and are equally crushed. Know itās a long shot and he will end up where heās supposed to but the wait is tough! He also went ahead with undeclared at this point and we have paid deposits. Has anyone heard back on their appeal yet?
My son appealed 4 weeks ago on 2/9. They told me this week that we should hear something very soon and they are working during spring break next week.
My admission decision appeal was approved!!! In state for bio, appealed on Jan 31.
if it says that my appeals decision is in review, is that a good sign or does everyoneās appeal go under review?
What are you appealing?
I got auto admit but was rejected from engineering, natural sciences, business, and mathematics with a 1510, 4.0 gpa, 2 jobs, and 4 medical internships.
top 4% of class as well
@garebear525 What did you select for first and second majors in your application?
Did you take the relevant AP or IB classes?
Talked to admissions today, and they said that it may take until after May 1st because it is contingent on how many people decline admission to decide if the spots open up if the appeal goes through. Just fyi.
@amelchd can you post your appeal? I appealed my admissions decision during spring break & I just got put under review. I had so many people edit & itās the best letter Iāve ever written.
Sorry about my usernameā¦I was really wanting to go to TAMU when I first created this accountā¦times have changed
@HopefulAggie200 Iād honestly rather not post my appeal because itās pretty personal and emotional, plus I would never help someone with that username kidding of course.
I will say though, what seemed to work for me is this basic format:
- A polite introduction thanking the committee for taking the time to consider you
- A body paragraph stating whatever new information youād be presenting (I honestly had no new info) and showing some strong interest in attending
- A nice closing, possibly with another thank you, and show them why youād be a good fit. Iād end with a sentence about how you are going to be proud to attend and make the school happy they accepted you in the end.
Everything I read says try not to make it too long; I wouldnāt worry so much about the length of it as long as you arenāt repetitive and keep it reasonable. There is obviously no hard and fast rule regarding word count.
Finally, just know that I heard 2% of appeals are approved. It is extremely rare. Donāt put faith into it; move on from UT and if it ends up working, it would be a pleasant surprise. Itās already the end of March. As it is, Iād imagine itās getting late for appeals also. I submitted mine literally the day after I was initially rejected.
Good luck!
@HopefulAggie200 oh wait up you already submitted it? If you want to PM me your appeal I can tell you how similar it was compared to mine structurally and in terms of how convincing it is. I donāt know if you want to do that now though. Whatās done is done. Sit back and try to enjoy the ride (as tough as is).
