Mine was quite lengthy (2 pages) mostly because of the new information I brought up, I went in depth with how I went about those things I did, when we did it, and how it helped. I also thanked them A LOT, I brought up everything the University could do for me, and what I could do for the university. I talked about the delay in my application because of Harvey. And some more stuff. @amelchd
I wouldâve submitted my appeal way earlier had I known what an appeal was. Iâve never heard of them until the week before my spring break. @amelchd
@HopefulAggie200 that all sounds really good, honestly. Iâd bet it was convincing. I donât want you to second guess yourself or anything, but did you show enough interest in the letter that they know if they approve your appeal, youâll attend? The application essays really didnât let me show my passion for UT, but I took the chance to really write about my love of UT in my appeal and thatâs where the interest came in.
@amelchd oh yes of course! Indeed I did. I think I proved to them that Iâd be a valuable asset of the student body. I really poured my love for UT out onto it.
@amelchd oh and although this still doesnât put me in the top 7% of my classâŠmy rank improved by 20 spots in one semester
@HopefulAggie200 please, please donât put too much faith in the appeal. My stats were very good compared to UTâs averages and I was 2 ranks away from top 7% at an extremely competitive high school. I felt like all I had to do was show interest. Even then, I had all but moved on before my appeal was approved.
I donât know your stats and I canât see your appeal, but know that the application process is crazy and the appeals are probably even crazier. Admissions has an idea of your academic ability and rejected you first time around. Even if your stats are super good, obviously they didnât accept you for a reason at first and your chances still arenât high. Itâs not like theyâre gonna be looking at your app the same way again.
I donât wanna crush hopes; I just donât want to raise them up either. I know how much it sucks to get rejected from UT as a lifelong Longhorn, and I was lucky enough to get in off appeal but also kept my hopes low enough so than the pain of the second rejection wouldnât have been nearly as bad as the first.
That being said, good luck and Iâm prayin for ya. I hope we can be classmates next year!
I understand that & I know how low of a chance it is to get in based on an appeal. But Iâm so much more than just my rank. I do have the academic prowess it takes to fulfill the aspects of a Longhorn. I have a little hope & im praying constantly. But I know it wonât work. They never do, in your case it was simple because you were near it. My class is almost 1000 students. Ive worked hard & have done so much. But then again, I know they wonât look past my academic record. (Not saying itâs bad, but itâs bad for UT, top 14%)
No matter what happens, youâve got the persistence (and Iâm sure the ability) of a winner. Whether or not UT accepts you, you can make the most of whatever situation youâre in.
@garebear525 are you hoping to be premed? If so, do either UGS or pick a major and do the premed coursework, get Aâs (sounds like your perfectly capable, and do the other resume stuff for med school. You will have an easier path than the engineering kids and even the bio kids. Good luck.
@amelchd do you think that maybe thereâs a chance? Or will they not look past my academic record?
Hey guys! I appealed February 1st, as I suspected there had been a mixup with my SAT scores. My appeal letter wasnât very longâa paragraph or so. I consulted r/UTAustin on reddit, and they suggested that my letter should focus more so on the supposed mixup, and not so much external information that might garner sympathy among admissions officers, hence my brevity. It seems that you guys poured your hearts and souls out into your essays. I suppose that doesnât bode well for me; mine was succinct and to-the-point. This is discouraging, if Iâm gonna be honest.
Are appeals decisions sent en masse, or are they sent out on a case-by-case basis? It seems that some people have received acceptances by this point. Is that an omen for those of us who are still âunder reviewâ?
@politicaloutcast I filed an appeal March 2st to request a major change from Dance to Advertising. The admissions advisor I spoke to said they recommended something brief, so I included just one paragraph in mine. Iâm assuming theyâre handled on a case-be-case basis but Iâve also heard (from UT Admissions) that itâs likely we wonât hear back until after May 1st, when they have a more accurate idea of the number of incoming students.
when do appeals come out?
Why would they wait until after May 1st? Wouldnât that be WAAAY passed everything? Rooming situations and moreâŠ
@HopefulAggie200 Exactly. Itâs super inconvenient but the appeals system is intended for small issues or worst case scenarios, not entire admissions decisions. May 1st is the date the university knows how many students plan on attanding, possibly opening seats in desirable departments for appeal or waitlisted students.
Hi, have you received an admission decision yet? Thanks.
My major change appeal was denied on Friday, 4/6.
Still havenât heard anythingâŠ
Several students at my sons school had their appeals denied last night. My son still has not heard anything.
