@Pro1234 thank you! However, as @3scoutsmom said, I wont get the stipend tho because UTD states that “Per IRS Revenue Code 117, visa holders not eligible for work authorization may not receive the cash stipend, as it is considered taxable income.” Still, a great award! Have you decided to enroll?
@Pham2000 you’re from Hanoi right? dude maybe we know each other lol
@Pham2000, it depends on the type of visa you have. If your visa allows you work in the US, you can accept the stipend. If your visa does not, I guess you cannot. You should talk to financial aid about it. You might be able to use a portion of the $1000 to pay for books which is not taxable here. Only money used for room and board is.
@throwawaycc0207 yes I am!!
@GTAustin My visa is F1. May I use that stipend to pay for health insurance?
Stipend money used to pay health insurance would be taxable. Does the F1 visa allow you to work, at least part time?
There was another intl student with a F1 visa that, if I remember correctly, said he could work. Again, I am no expert in this area and you might want to contact UTD at aes@UTD.edu. I’m sure they deal with these questions all the time.
can i accept my aes scholarship award before accepting my offer to the school?
@colorfulhuman, according to UTD’s website, you have to accept the admission offer first. You do have until 5/1 to accept. If you want the scholarship, make sure you accept prior to May1, after that you lose it.
Hi people. I have been admitted UT Dallas as an international and received an AES Distinction Scholarship. I have read my e-mail for times and visit the website over and over but still I am confused about the value. Any of you are out-of-state or international AES Distinction receivers? Do you have to pay the whole in-state fees or only pay the housing fees (like the in-state recipients)? Thank you.
Guys, I have just emailed my AES appeal letter. I know it’s hard to go from Distinction to Honors, but I want to give it a try.
Best of luck to those out there waiting for AES or trying to appeal!
@Pham2000 who did you email?
You might want to email it interest@UTD.edu. Several other students on this thread emailed their appeals there and were successful.
I emailed admission-status@utdallas.edu but haven’t received a reply. Let me know if you receive a reply from there @Pham2000
@GTAustin You sure that is where you can send appeals?
@Texasstudent827 To be fair, that’s the e-mail that notified me of the award I was given. You can also try: admissions-status@utdallas.edu (that’s the one I used but you won’t go wrong with either). Best wishes!
Actually, based on past posts (#111 and around there), it appears that both email addresses are being used and students are getting responses back within 2 weeks. I don’t know which one would be better.
I sent it to interest@utd.edu, I hope it works fine
@Texasstudent827 Did you receive a reply?
@Pro1234 I asked if they considered me yet and still did not get a reply (other than the reciept)
Have you guys received an email update yet? It’s been 2 weeks
