If you are NM, they would prefer you in Honors LLC but you can request CS LLC. It depends on you. Being in Honors, you will meet and make friends with people outside of CS. You will have roommates that are NM. They will probably be from all over the US. If you live in the CS LLC, you will be going to class and living with the same group of people. You will probably be rooming with students from Texas and the Dallas area. The pros to CS LLC is having a guaranteed study group. You do have to careful about that - I have read many postings about students getting into trouble for having coding that is too close to each other. Whether it is cheating or treating it as a group project, all the students get into trouble. Both of my kids chose honors but it depends on what you want.
My son received his admission packet on Monday for the school of engineering, but received no AES. His scores are 1440 SAT, 33 ACT, National Hispanic Scholar, Eagle Scout, 4.12 weighted GPA. I would have though he would have gotten something based on what people have posted. So what gives?
@CruizerDave are you in state? If yes, what is your son’s class rank? That plays a role in the AES too. But otherwise your son’s SAT scores are better than mine…
@CruizerDave sometimes it takes a few days after acceptance to get the scholarship award. Give it about a week and if it’s not in the portal, contact them.
I am an international student and my application in UT Dallas got completed on December 10.
When should I expect a decision?
@CruizerDave Did your son get some AES money?
I’m OOS, 32 act, 3.88 gpa (4.33 W), & decent extracurriculars. I got AES giving me in state tuition & $6,000/year.
No AES money. We waited to see if the portal would be updated. No change.
Regarding rank. He goes to a highly competitive school in Austin (Westwood) and they do not give out class rank unless you are in the top 10% of the class.
Forgot to mention. He was accepted to Baylor Engineering, and Texas A&M. Both offered scholarship money.
Well you can appeal, read stories on last years thread about kids appealing in February and getting aes money in March. You still have time to make them be competitive as an option.
@kcgirl316, congrats! Could you share how soon after admission news you heard about AES?
@JayArRed I heard about AES along with my admission news, 3-4 weeks after applying

I just got capped from UT Austin and I am seriously now considering UTD they are also offering me 5000 per year but I was hoping I could get more …Also does anyone know about the biomedical engineering program at UTD and the campus life at UTD. I really need some information and anything will help … Thank you !!
I don’t know much about the biomedical engineering program but it does have a brand new facility and UTD, in general, supports undergrads doing research. You need to come and take a school tour. As far as social life, it is what you make of it. UTD does not have the large sports programs or large Greek system. UTD does have sports and Greek but on a smaller scale. UTD is extremely diverse and you will meet people from all over the world as well as Plano. There are clubs for everything and as long as you leave your dorm room, you will meet people. The dorms are great, you have your own bedroom. UTD is in Richardson which has the advantages of being in a suburb - safety, access to Target, Walmart, lots of restaurants. Close, though, is Dallas which has clubs, downtown, museums, sports. If you could bring a car - great and parking is cheap compared to UT. If not, they do have public transportation, buses and trains are free for students, and on campus there is zip cars. If you have any questions, ask and I’ll try to help.
@2019gradclass - You should really go tour the campus if possible. I was really impressed with it. It is my daughter’s number 2 choice. And in many ways - I actually think it would be a better fit for her than her top choice.
I know it has a reputation as a “commuter school” but that was NOT the vibe I got when we where there. With about 30,000 students - there are still a ton of kids living on campus and engaged in campus activities. We toured between 2pm-430pm on a Friday. Still tons of students on campus.
My dad was a UT Austin Chem Eng graduate back in the day when it was just called UT (late 50s-early60s). And I have degrees from SFA and TTU. I was expecting UTD to feel like a place to get educated - but not have a school pride feel. It really did seem feel like a true college experience and not just community college. It has the number of sororities/fraternities on par with a school like SFA or SHSU.
Thank You so much for the information I am going to visit the campus next week and I was also wondering how scholarships and awards are given out, do I have to apply… how does it work…, any information will help me as I am a first generation college student and have no idea how this all works nor do my parents and my school counselors are of no help!!
As far as AES scholarships, you do not have to apply. They are tied to your application and you would know whether you received one either at admittance or within a few weeks of admittance. For individual scholarships look at this list and see what you might be able to apply for: www.utdallas.edu/finaid/scholarships/scholarship-listing/
We’ve got a new Comet coming there next fall! She’s a National Merit Scholar majoring in physics. Her NM State Farm Scholarship will close the $ gap to make it a true COA?
