@gracie21 I had the same question on the UNC-CH forum, what other than grades can you present to help your application if grades were good and have remained at the same level.
Very excited for my daughter …she received her packet today!
Beautiful letter…really well done UVa ( I’m biased CLAS '79)
Has anyone received Echols scholar award yet?
My daughter also thought that the acceptance letter was beautifully written.
My son got the Rodman Scholar letter today.
Can someone tell me about those other scholar programs?
Congrats to all who got Echols or Rodman scholars! Just a question - in relation to your admissions packet, when did the letter arrive (at the same time, before, or after)?
After. I received echols in the mail today and the admissions letter yesterday
There isn’t anything for the school of architecture, right?
Wait a minute… Dean J is a woman?? Omg I can’t believe I thought it was a man this entire time haha. And so CavPup is Dean J’s puppy correct? Not Dean Greg Roberts?
@gracie21 I know how frustrating it is. My daughter was accepted to UVA and Michigan OOS and deferred at UNC Chapel hill… I guess that’s what they mean when they say “holistic”. She too has straight A’s she sent in to the school. It seems to have to do more with what the other applicants look like comparatively than what you all can do to improve things. I wish you good luck!! These are all amazing schools and you will get a fantastic, spirited and fun. education and any of them! Good luck to you!
Hi all,
Just a quick question… I’m an international student accepted EA. Am I supposed to get a acceptance package in the mail too? Or does UVA not mail stuff to international students? Thanks!
Congratulations!
Does being a Rodman or Echols scholar look good for employers or is it just a few benefits offered in lieu of the university giving out monetary scholarships?
Hey all,
Just answering a few of the questions I see…
-All of the scholars programs have websites that explain their benefits. There are four, but you can only get into three of them right now: Echols (College), Rodman (Engineering), College Science Scholars (pure sciences), and Arts. Only current students can be selected by faculty for Arts Scholars. The small programs (Architecture, Nursing, and Kinesiology) don’t have programs. They are special enough in light of their size!
-The benefits of the scholars programs are most prominent in the first and second year.
-If you are invited into Echols, Rodman, or CSS now, you can apply to join after the first semester. See the program websites for info. The Office of Admission isn’t involved in that process.
-Our budget doesn’t allow us to handle DHL/FedEx to international addresses. We mail through USPS.
-Yes, I’m a woman. Dean Roberts doesn’t have any J names (Greg W. Roberts). I named Jack (CavPup) after our former dean, Jack Blackburn.
@“Dean J” -Your clue finally led me to your photograph . You were the speaker (you might always be the speaker) at our information session last spring break.
Good luck to all! I will be withdrawing my application, and I hope you all receive great news soon.
Since I have been a regular reader of this thread, thought I would post results for myself

So far, I am 2 for 3 on her Early Apps (deferred by Dartmouth) and into UVA Echols and OSU Honors.
For those admitted - Congratulations!
For those deferred - I am in the same fight
For those denied - You will do well wherever you go. I’m sure you have other great options.
We’ve had snow impact our mail delivery but the orange admission envelope came on Friday and the Rodman letter on Monday. There is no money attached to the Rodman Scholar program and I assume the others are the same. It’s not about the money though it’s about the various opportunities.
Can I get more info on Day as on the Lawn. For OOS who already visited, what are the advantages to attend?
I need more info on Day on the Lawn as well. We haven’t visited yet.
