@Trenchlord
Wow. Your teachers must have slandered you in your recs lol, that’s nuts.

That, or the myth that people make accounts to try to psyche people out of applying is true…

Trenchlord does have high standardized test scores, but he says that he only has average grades and ECs. High testing + average GPA = lazy student in the adcom’s eyes, generally. If true, his teachers might not have written glowing recs. Also, if he has average grades and ECs, he might also have average essays. So sure, his testing scores are really good, but I could easily see why he was rejected. UVA is a holistic review school.

Helloo. Im a senior from El Salvador and I want to major in architecture and sustainability. So far I got into Notre Dame and UVA. I applies early Upenn and WashU (although i might not get in) Which is a better school? Pleasee help im soo confused!!

Accepted to College of Arts and Sciences! So excited!!

Yeah even i can see why I was rejected. My recs were likely okay, not ultra special but definitely not negative. Grades are probably the slipping point. I’m international so can’t really provide a GPA but I’d say its probably equivalent to 3.6 or 3.7. My school is prominent and rigorous though so I was hoping that would cancel out the grades. I’m not even surprised, I almost expected it. Just hope I get into any school other than my safety (IU).

Essays: I think my CA essay was really good! I talked about developing a more selfless mindset. I also LOVED my supplement, especially the one about my quirk. I personally think it did a wonderful job at displaying the less serious part of me, while my other two essays showed how I can be very introspective.

Location: Louisiana
State or Country: US
School Type: Private (VERY small)
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male

Daughter was deferred, Engineering

OOS
Rank: 5/495
GPA: 4.0 unweighted, 4.5 weighted
ACT: 29
Lots of APs and good ECs

Oh well, Their loss. Without a merit scholarship it wasn’t going to happen anyway. She’s been accepted to her other choices that are probably better fits for Engineering anyway…

As a parent, I’m always curious as to why parents let their children apply to schools that they could never attend even if accepted. It’s an absolute waste of time and money. UVA doesn’t offer any merit aid (and is very open about that) so if this was an imperative, what benefit is there to apply?
