Is it true because of the high acceptance rate and high yield last year, less students will be admitted this year? Heard a few of my classmates mention it.
@ninadasiy Your friends are not admission officers from UVa. No one knows. I do not think that they had that over-enrollment compare to UMichigan.
Speaking with UVA deans in person this past summer, I was informed that the school did not over enroll for the Class of 2018, but had a very high yield. The high yield effected the amount of students wait listed- very few were accepted. With a high yield they will most likely admit a smaller group this year, but not significantly smaller. (Especially not like U-Mich) With the Graham case and Rape Case, these could help the admission rate stay about the same as last year, with them worrying about a slightly (very slightly) lower yield. I expect the in-state to stay the same, but more OOS might be accepted due to their lower yield nature.
Hi everyone. This could be me just over analyzing but I’m going to say it anyway. The blog post that Dean J wrote yesterday is extremely similar to the blog post written one week before decisions were released last year and the year before. Could this be a clue or just a coincidence? Thanks!

Does anyone know if mid-year report will be considered as a part of early action process if my counselor sends it in early before 16th like today?
Usually, for EA and ED, schools do not consider mid year reports because they are not sent out early enough to be considered. I doubt that it will be considered but you never know.
@ineversleep my counselor just submitted it this morning.
Hey all, I decided to take a reading break to see how things were going on CC. I’ll cover a few of the recent topics…
-Peabody Hall houses the Office of Admission (first floor) and the Dean of Students (second floor). Aside from saying hello in the stairwells, we aren’t involved in student affairs’ work.
-It’s true that we didn’t get to make many waiting list offers last year. We made a few for specific segments of the class, but we were pretty close having the class completed that the waiting list work was extremely precise.
-The timing of my “this is why it takes so long” post is about the tweets and emails I’m getting. This is always when people get antsy and want to know what’s going on. We’re getting there…but there’s still some work to be done.
I always, always, always post on social media as soon as I get the word that the decisions are finalized and we are ready to release. People in the office probably laugh because I FLY to the computer to post. I promise that messages will go up on the blog, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram as soon as I get the word!
@Dean J Thank you so much for keeping us updated!
Oh, and regarding MY reports, some might make it into files while we are still doing the EA review, but we can’t be certain since the processing staff is handling a deluge of documents right now. They will obviously be reviewed if you are deferred.
@Benzy50, my pleasure. Sorry I haven’t been able to chime in.
@"Dean J" Thank you for actually showing up in this thread and give me the essential answer about the stuff that I was concerned. My counselor has just submitted my mid-year report this morning and I will just keep my fingers crossed that it may be considered as a part of my decision. Thank you again!
Thank you for answering our questions @Dean J !
what are the chances that decisions come out tomorrow or next Friday??? like zero?
Next Friday is a possibility though I doubt tomorrow.
Your answer is on Instagram.
@Dean J what does Instagram say? I do not have an account
I don’t see anything related to this on instagram… @“Dean J”
It’s a photo of Dean’s J’s desk showing that she is still reading files. She says that if her desk looks as it does, they are not ready to release decisions, indicating that tomorrow is not decision day.
Oh, yes I see it now.
Don’t know if CC will let me post the link, but I’ll try

If the same pattern follows as in the past couple of years then decisions will come out next Fri the 16th. My guess is a 40% chance for next Fri and 40% for Fri the 23rd, with only a 20% chance of Fri the 30th.
