UVA McIntire Transfer - Fall 2010

I currently attend Ohio State University. I'm from VA and I'd like to go to school somewhere closer to home. I'm a second year student and am currently in the undergrad business program at OSU.
My cumulative GPA after the Autumn quarter is a 3.5
My GPA in Business Classes is a 3.9-4.0
My SATs in high school were 2100
My high school GPA was also a 3.5
I'm involved in several different groups
and I work part time while attending school

Do you think it's possible to transfer into the McIntire School of Commerce at UVA or is it a pipe dream, especially considering they were recently ranked the #1 Undergrad Business School in the nation? Also, if the application deadline is March 1st, will my grades for the Winter Quarter be taken into consideration? The Winter quarter at OSU begins Jan. 4th and ends March 15th. Are there any other good business schools in the area that I should consider applying to? Does it help in any way that I'm from VA, even if I'm not attending school in VA?
Thanks, I really appreciate any advice. Feel free to be as honest as possible.

consider JMU and UMD

and try UVA too, why not, right?

I don’t know it would be worth the bother to move to JMU or UMD

Still need some help, I would really appreciate it.

Hello,

Well here is the thing, you have a chance just as much as the next person will. You are simply trying to create options and that is how you must look at it. McIntire is a very competitive school to get into at UVA

So, don’t be surprised if you do get in. But I question why students always say “is it worth applying.” Well why not? Right?

You have a decent shot, but they do take very few transfers but who knows you may be apart of that very few. You need to build a case for why you need to attend McIntire and how you would be a good fit essentially.

If you have a better reason than the next guy, you should be good to go. I don’t think being closer to home will be a strong enough reason honestly.

Just apply, but all across the board of your application you must be on topof everything.

If you don’t get in, what other options do you have? I would say it’s definitely not the best thing to do if you only have UVA as your option for next fall. I would say at least 3 maybe even 4 universities as an alternate to UVA…

That’s my opinion. I hope it helps.

Send me a private message if you want to continue talking about this, I don’t check this site as often as I used to but I’ll get an email if you PM me. Good luck.

Hello Fellow Transfers,
Here is the UVa 2010 Fall Transfer page on Facebook:

Please, feel free to post your comments, concerns, questions, ideas etc.

It is also worth noting that most of the people accepted into UVA’s undergrad business were VCCS students. 70% of the class of 2008 transfers were from VCCS and there were only 36 offers out of 272. That means out of 272 applications, only 10 people were accepted who came from another university. You need to stay on top of your grades big time. Try looking for leadership roles too.

It doesn’t hurt to try.
