I’m a first year at NVCC right now and I chose to attend despite getting into some in state Virginia schools. My high school grades were pretty weak mostly and I have about a 29-30 ACT super scored. It’s been about a month and half and school is extremely easy and not to degrade, but it’s basically a joke. I obviously have aced all the exams and other work in my classes. 38 credits of college work and 3 more credits from AP score, so a total of 41 transferable credits. It’s a bit early to predict, but I’m hoping a 4.0 for the fall and mid semester report should give me a good chance.
Fall Semester: 17 Credits
MTH 271 (Calculus)
ENG 111 (English)
SPA 101 (Spanish 1)
PSY 200 (Intro Psychology)
ECO 201 (Macro economics)
Spring Semester: 21 Credits
MTH 272 (Calc 2)
ENG 112 (English 2)
SPA 102 (Spanish 2 )
BUS 100 (Commerce 1800 class Mcintire)
MTH 241 (Statistics 1)
ECO 202 (Micro Economics)
PHIL (Philosophy)
You have solid classes and a good GPA will wigh more than HS GPA (I would think) I.m assumin that the business classes will transfer because it is a state school which will put you on track to apply to commerce mid sophomore year. You will need accounting 1 & 2 You need to get to Spanish level 4 either by classwork or the placement test. Good luck.
Thanks for the response man!
If you are looking for Commerce, look at their blog. Lots of good info there. Also, have a backup plan, as the acceptance rates are about 65% and when we went to an info session we were told that the acceptance rate last year for sophomore transfers was about 35%, juniors from other schools are looked at differently and they only take about 25 students that aren’t at UVA already. My son is a second year transfer and is really loving it. Definitely more challenging than his last school but he is happy he made the switch. Best of luck!
Thank you very much sir! If I may ask, you said I need Accounting 1 and 2. On the prerequisites its noted that they need Comm 1800, and then two more levels of comm classes. Could you expand on that maybe?
Comm 2010 and Comm2020 are Financial and Managerial Accounting. There is also a freshman English class my son had to take at UVA. Yours may transfer since you are at a VA school, he was not. There is a program where you can input your classes and it will tell you what the UVA equivalent is. I can’t remember offhand where it is on the website but look under the transfer pages. I did find the school to be very helpful when we went through the process bot by telephone and via email. Best of luck!
Thank you for the response man! How good are my chances in your opinion?
If it helps I’m instate at near West springfield
I think your chances are good. Keep your grades up and write good essays. If you are looking at commerce you may want to take the first accounting class next semester as according to the commerce blog page they are switching it to an online class. Read the blog and you can decide what will work for you. One thing I will say is that the commerce school was helpful whenever we called with questions. My son went in as a 2nd year this year and had a similar profile from out of state. Good luck!
