UVA, William and Mary, UNC

I have just finished my first semester at the University of Arizona with a 4.0. I was wandering if I kept up the good work next semester will I be competitive for Fall 2010? I know that the adcom will only see my first semester grades and my mid-term report for my Spring semester grades. I think I will do well next semester too because I'm working on my gen eds. My high school record would not be considered competitive for first year admission

I believe I have matured dramatically since high school and I care about what I am doing now. Also, I am an Arizona resident, so the odds will undoubtedly be stacked against me.

I applied last year to UVA and W&M because my parents wanted me to. I did'nt expect to be competitive or anything.

Is admission in for Fall 2010 realistic?

The only thing is that for sophomore transfers, they heavily weigh your grades from high school. For these reasons, I believe it would be better if you applied to them for either Spring 2011 or Fall 2011. However, you can always apply and if you’re denied, it does not hurt your chances to apply for a junior transfer too.

Hope this helps! And congratulations on the stellar GPA for your first semester, keep it up and I could see you at any of those schools. Also, checkout other top 20 schools, because if you keep it up, you have a very strong shot anywhere besides ivy leagues because those are just so out of reach for everyone.

Thanks Bruinsjew, thats the response that I expected. However, the idea of staying in Tucson another year is very unattractive and I would very much like to leave. I do count myself lucky that I am getting a college education at a reputable university but I would like to transfer to one of these three institutions.

Has anyone pulled off a similar transfer personally and would like to share their experiences? Which one, if any, would be the most realistic chance?

Thanks
