My son got admitted into UW Seattle and Purdue. Got into Purdue engineering. but in UW, he got in as pre science major.
Both are out of state. From CA. Any suggestions?

Purdue first year engineering does not guarantee entry into the major. The student must do the first year engineering program with a 3.2 technical GPA and overall GPA to be automatically admitted to his choice of engineering major (except bioengineering). Otherwise, it is a competitive admission process.

However, Purdue computer science has its own policy:
<a href=“CODO - Department of Computer Science - Purdue University”>https://www.cs.purdue.edu/undergraduate/codo.html
You may want to check whether the stated GPAs in that policy mean admission to the major, or are just the baseline eligibility to enter a competitive admission process.

Washington computer science is very competitive to get into if one is not directly admitted as a frosh:

Has he been admitted to any other schools where he is already in the computer science major, or where there is no internal admissions barrier to entering the computer science major?

he got into San jose state (SJSU), penn state, UF. Our top choices are UW, SJSU and Purdue

CS at Purdue is in the college of science not engineering.
At UW admission into CS is very competitive. Most don’t get into the major.
