UW Winter 2015 transfer thread

@winlogic‌

Great! :slight_smile:
I have yet to receive my letter.
My transcript loaded Friday evening so I’m assuming it’s either going to arrive tomorrow or Thursday.
I do live in Olympia, WA so I’m pretty far from UW.
Hopefully this transcript trick is accurate hahahah

@UWchancemeh‌ me too! I’m still waiting for the official letter haha. Hang in there :)

I had my transcripts load Friday. My letter came today. I live near green lake, so relatively close to the UW. I’m waiting for my admissions package to arrive still.

@dcwolfe‌

Congrats!

I just received an email from the housing division. Anyone know how big of a difference there is between north and west campus dorms?

@UWchancemeh‌ I have heard north campus is not very nice. They have renovated west campus and it is much nicer. I’d say go for west, but that’s your choice. North campus may be closer to some of the classes you wish to take. I will be avoiding north haha :slight_smile: I also received that email!

@UWchancemeh I also know that the west campus dorms have their own bathrooms, I don’t the north campus dorms do

@UWchancemeh I also know that the west campus dorms have their own bathrooms, I don’t the north campus dorms do

got my letter today! I live about 15 minutes from the UW in Queen Anne so you guys outside the city should get yours tomorrow :)))))

Who is thinking of living on campus versus off?

I’m planning on living off campus as I already live in Seattle in an apartment.

I’m currently a student at UW and I would suggest Nordheim Court, Mercer Court or Stevens Court if you guys are upperclassmen. The new West Campus dorms, such as Lander, are very nice and have en-suite bathrooms, but they’re also mostly filled with underclassmen. Nordheim is north of the U-Village and Mercer/Stevens are on West. And if you’re an older student with a family, Radford Court may be something to consider as well.

North Campus dorms are admittedly fairly old, but they have more of the traditional collegiate feel to them–hallway style dorms and communal bathrooms come to mind. I had the chance to stay on West for A&O and thought it felt like a swanky but impersonal hotel. Since the school year’s started, there’s probably a lot more going on there, but like I said, if you’re a junior transfer get ready to meet lots of freshmen! (Honestly, get ready to meet lots of freshmen if you’re living in any campus housing period, with the exception of the above few, because the 6000 beds available tend to be reserved by incoming students).

A lot of people move off-campus after their sophomore year, so that’s something to consider as well. Whether you’re renting with friends or living in your own studio in the U District (or Northgate or wherever) you’ve got plenty of options. The email UW sent you probably has more information about all this.

Hope this helped, and best of luck!

My transcript says “non-matriculated” since I took high school UW courses. I don’t have that indicator like others. I live in Lynnwood so hopefully something will be in the mail tomorrow. Otherwise I will be notified in a different batch. Its exciting to hear people are starting to finally get their letters.

@Coriander23‌

Wow, very informative, much more informative than the e-mail :stuck_out_tongue:

@pinkforgetmenots‌

I really want to live off campus, but I’m having trouble finding a roommate so I may just live in the dorms.
Wbu?

@justin3co Have you received an email from housing? It seems as though the people whose transcripts loaded in the second batch received a housing email this afternoon. Maybe that is something you can look out for?

@socalsea‌ I don’t see an email about that. Hopefully something will come up. It could come in the next group.

@UWchancemeh‌ I currently live in an apt that’s working for me so I am going to stay there at least for the first quarter to adjust and reevaluate as needed.

I don’t know if you’ve tried these but I would try looking for a roommate in reddit/seattle as well as reddit/udub. In the seattle reddit especially I have seen many many posts for roommates, although if you want a fellow student that may be trickier.

I would also think that if you spent a day looking at bulletin boards around campus you would see postings looking for roommates. Hope that helps!

@pinkforgetmenots‌

Ah, great advice. I’ll definitely look into those websites :)

@Coriander23‌

Am I correct in assuming that UW will send an information packet regarding the documents they need prior to the new quarter (i.e. current transcripts, shot records, etc.)?

I got an email about housing today, so that seems promising! Hopefully I get a decision letter soon, preferably tomorrow.

That’s really interesting. When I was accepted for freshman year, I don’t think I got any emails that were sent about housing. I just checked my email history. Maybe it’s done differently for transfers.

I contacted admissions today. A batch of notification letters are getting mailed out today.

Received both my letter and my information packet! :)

@socalsea‌

Yours should arrive soon! :)

Got my letter today! :slight_smile:
