UWC 2012 anyone?

@amylsc

Hi i got an interview and was wondering what activities we do when we stay the night? Do we get to stay in a boarding house? Thanks :)

Hey everyone  I just got offered a place for UWC Adriatic in Italy  Good luck with your interviews everybody and we’ll probably meet someday :D

Congratulations! i’m hoping to get a place at UWC Adriatic :)

Congratulations, Xpedite! The photos of the Italian school are gorgeous. And so near Venice! Very cool! Are you a musician? What made you choose UWC Adriatic?

Awesome! Where are you from, xpedite?

Thanks!!! I’m from Germany  I didn’t really choose UWCAd, my first choice was Norway actually  But the college in Italy is great too! I love Italy  I play the clarinet and the piano but they don’t have this musician-thingie anymore, they accept “normal” students too  I’m so excited :D

My first choice is Norway too!! But US applicants don’t even find out if we get an interview until tomorrow or Thursday. :frowning: Fingers crossed!

I got interviews too. I didn’t expect it, but we’ll see.
@xpedite. Congratulations!! What kind of questions did they ask you during the interviews?

Sooooo, I just - like half an hour ago - got this email saying that I’m invited for the Dutch selection day!! It feels great knowing that I got a spot  How cool it would be if we would close this thread with people saying ‘I’m going to India/US/Canada/Italy etc.’ Good luck to everyone!

If you received an invitation for an interview today, are you in the United States? We are anxiously awaiting my daughters e-mail.

I’ve sent the application today and they say they’ll tell us the dates of the interviews by 12th of April. I can’t wait!

dr1976, I’m a parent too. Exciting but scary, isn’t it? My dd would be writing this but she’s working on an application for a summer internship right now. In between checking her emails, that is! We’re in the US ( Georgia), so like everyone, we’re on pins and needles. Her first choice is Wales because she’s a Sea Scout and likes the association with the Coast Guard. Italy is her second choice ( we have family there) and then Maastricht.

I discovered the UWC while on the Armand Hammer (not UWC, just AH) website for another purpose. I could not believe my eyes when I read about it. It was as if a school, custom made to our specifications, had spawned before my very eyes. We homeschooled until this year, and did so in a manner that is remarkably similar to the UWC. Because of this, my dd’s application was unusual - she had to submit transcripts and letters from both homeschool contacts and from her new public school ones. Double the applicationa and double the nail biting too!

Like everyone, I suppose, we go back and forth about her chances of getting in. I had to create her home school transcripts on very short notice and without access to most of her papers (we are in the middle of a major remodel after storm damage and everything was stored hastily). So, they’re far from standard. The administration staff will either dismiss them out of hand or decide she’s an intriguing case and to bring her in as a wild card. At the end of the day, acceptance is subjective, so all anyy of us can do is hope for the best. Good luck to all of you and perhaps we’ll see you in March. Oh - Does anyone have any idea what parents do during the day of interviews? - do we just leave or do they have some use for us ?

Has anyone in the US heard back yet? I’m anxious!

Nothing yet.

My daughter is a 1st year at UWC USA. We’re waiting to hear if her younger brother will get an interview this year. Last year, there were about 12 students from three or four states at her interview, maybe 5 adult admission committee members plus a handful of UWC graduates (college students) since it was on a college campus with a large UWC presence. Dh and I left for the day and then came back after lunch. I seem to remember we spent the day making youngest daughter’s 1st communion banner  For parents, there was only a very brief information session at the beginning of the day (not nearly enough information, I don’t think, considering that you are sending your child away for most of two years) and another very brief opportunity to ask questions at the end of the day. They did not interview the parents.

Still haven’t heard anything… Is this bad?

I don’t think anyone has heard in the USA. I guess that could be good or bad!

Thankyou, Apollo6, for letting me know what to expect. I agree, that it seems a bit light considering we’re sending 16 and 17 yo’s ( not even college age) kids off for such an extended period.

Well, we’ll just prepare as well as we can.

@Vitus I am from The Netherlands too. Hope to see you there in Utrecht

Btw, is there anyone who knows what kind of questions they ask during the interviews?

Hey everyone!
I’m an applicant from India; been lurking around this thread for a while.
Our NC will let us know whether we’ve got an interview by mid-March, and the interviews will be held in April.
I’m so excited! My top 3 choices are MUWCI, UWCAd, and RCNUWC, but I’d be happy at any of the schools; it’s the people that matter, not the place!

Good luck to everyone who’s applying :)
