You might not be familiar with the name, but Giza is the place where the pyramids are… and according to Google, Dokki is home to approximately 40 foreign embassies. Interesting, huh? I myself never knew this piece of information! ;)

@UWCian: I would definitely be interested in seeing the video! As @Stuffzhappenin said, throw the link up when it’s ready. As I haven’t been to Egypt yet, I can’t definitively say that I want to live there; however, it’s been at the top of my Theoretical List of Places that I’d like to live since 2010. All I know is that I don’t want to live where I’m currently living. ;-)

@Stuffzhappenin: Well, at least you have your choice of passports! I do see how it might be a little awkward, though …

Question for everyone: Favorite place you’ve travelled to? Place you’d most like to go?

Ohohoh me! Pick me! waves hand in the air

I would most like to go to Japan and my favourite place would be Majorca in spring time or California. But I also like Antibes a lot.

@LUCian really?! That’s like expecting British people to live in the time of Shakespeare XD crazy haha

@UWCian: Oh, hey! I want to see your montage too!
@knoxadonyx: Ahaha, where do you live? And why wouldn’t you want to live there?

Oh, my turn! I’d like to go to South Korea and Japan, and my favourite place so far has been Australia! It has some of the most beautiful sites. :o

@applesauce21: I know, right…
@sephrenia: I am gonna post the link of the video once I am done with it
@knoxandonyx: I always wanted to go to the US (especially LA, LV, NY, and Hawaii) ;)

@sephrwhoa have you heard they’re planning to have a UWC in Japan!! Im soooo excited for future applicants ^_^

UWCian: Looking forward to it! :)

applesauce: OMG. Seriously?! That’s awesome! Same here, although I wish I could attend there. :P

guys , anybody who got into uwc this year ???

GIVE ME SOME TIPS PLEASE

If you personal message UWC2014 or something like that (look back through the thread) they’re an alumnus who’s promised to help out applicant ^_^

@Sephrenia: I guess I’m not being fair about hating where I live. I don’t really have a reason to. I mean, I have an extremely supportive & loving immediate family, and live in a stable, comfortable environment. But it’s in The Middle of Nowhere, Upper-Midwest USA, and it is a very small community where many people have the same perspective about things, and many people have no interest in international affairs, and I just feel like there’s so much more to the world (and life) than living in this tiny place forever. So I want to country-hop! And I suppose that everywhere has its downfalls, but 92% of those downfalls seem a whole lot better than monotony. Hopefully that makes a bit of sense and I’m not crazy …

@knoxandonyx

I’m the exact same way. No worries, I of all people understand where you’re coming from. I feel like there’s so much more I can do with my life, and my current environment is my biggest constraint.

@knoxandonyx You’re definitely not crazy, or that would make crazy too! I understand where you’re coming from, when I was younger I lived like an expat-dad worked in oil hence the three passports-but now that’s all changed. I go to a local scottish school, in a very comfortable neighborhood yet I always question wether this is all there is to life. To top it all off, Scotland is ranked as one of the most globally immobile countries in the world. My classmates do travel, but just going to Orlando or Tenerife isn’t enough.

In a sense I miss the interesting discussion topics I was a part of with other expat kids. Imagine eight year olds talking about eradicating poverty in Africa. At the end of the day, you have to learn how to accept others and UWC is just the place to do this.

@stuffzhappenin, I completely agree. I have lived all over the US and now reside in a small, semi-rural, Midwestern town with people that barely travel outside of the state. I come from a background of traveling and one of the reasons that I applied to UWC is because I want to become a diplomat or ambassador after college. I don’t understand how many people do not see what is beyond their backyard…

Good luck to everyone :D

So who else is counting down the days until we find out if we are offered an interview? :D

@knoxandonyx and @cvm123

Good for you guys. I know exactly where you are coming from. I also live in the Upper-Midwest!
Hopefully, I will see you at the interview!

I think this an appropriate moment to quote Mark Twain:
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.”

:D I read this quote and basically whined “UWCeeeeeeee” in my head.
Also, another Midwest person here. Kansas, wooohooo!

@lunascreatures i just copied that down - so awesome

I livein a pretty big city, but still encounter that sense of “if it’s far away why should I care?” which makes me want to either scream, or very tersely describe the concepts of globalisation and compassion

An Aung San Suu Kyi said: “use your liberty to give us ours”

@knoxandonyx
Based on all the posts above, I’m pretty sure you can see that it’s not crazy to feel that way. I live in a tiny country with a population that can rival China’s, and in a developing country, society is pretty conservative, narrow minded, and uneducated, for the most part. So there are quite a few constraints and boundaries as well; and while it isn’t exactly isolated, we’ve got stereotypical, prejudiced and this all consuming self centered outlook on life from the majority of people here. So I guess, to an extent, I want to go to a UWC for the same reason: to experience the rest of the world! :)

@lunascreature and @applesauce21 : Those are some amazing quotes. :o

I used the Mark Twain quote in one of my essays
I hope it is not too cliche - as in lots of people used it too … Yikes!!
