I think that UWC essays are so personal I cant imagine two being the same :)

@JOOOLZ though I kinda wish I had an essay where I could’ve used it, I didn’t - so at least you know one less person did! but like applesauce said, the essays are personal and I don’t think yours would be very similar to anyone else’s.
the quote I did use (in my book essay) was
“Sometimes it seems the universe wants to be noticed.
That’s what I believe. I believe the universe wants to be noticed. I think the universe is improbably biased toward consciousness, that it rewards intelligence in part because the universe enjoys its elegance being observed. And who am I, living in the middle of history, to tell the universe that it - or my observation of it - is temporary?”

Well, I only quoted the first sentence, but talked about the rest of it yay books!

Just as an aside, does anyone else struggle with the “Where are you from?” question or is it just me? I’m quite curious as to whether there are other “Third Culture Kids” reading this thread. Perhaps, those who may have not posted anything yet?

For those who are interested here’s my story:

Born in Nigeria, then moved to The States(Florida) when I was 3 months old; stayed until 2nd grade and then moved to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia stayed there for 2 years. Then we moved to the Netherlands, only stayed there for 8 months and finally ended up in Scotland!

So you can see my difficulty with concepts such as: Home, Hometown, Culture to identify with, having an American accent in Scotland. I know this is weird, but it’s just how I lived and the long explanations just seem like the norm now.

Oh, I also forgot countries where we only lived for a few months. Like: Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong and France.

I feel a little jealous now. My NC’s application doesn’t ask for essays. In fact, it just asks for grades, ECA’s and a recommendation basically. Essays would’ve been so much more personal and allow us to express ourselves and opinions about the UWC movement. :/

@stuffzhappenin : Wow. You’ve travelled quite a lot. :o Is there a specific reason?

Dad(deceased) was an oil and gas engineer.

I’m sorry about your father stuffzhappenin :(

my dad’s an engineer too, so I’ve been abroad long time once (California, one year) and Boston for a month. Plus little holidays. But I haven’t seen anything but north america and Europe - I’d love to have traveled like that ^_^

Hello everyone, I’m from Serbia. I understand what you mean when you say your country is conservative and narrow-minded. Mine is too. I live in a small town in South of Serbia, and it is getting boring, like someone of you said, i want to experience the world and UWC is the best opportunity, also here is a lot of discrimination. I’m an atheist and when i say that people treat me deferent. Also, i live in patriarchy, so i need take class about our religion, and i didn’t want it. All people here hates homosexulas, like they they did them something. And, yeah, i also thin that UWC is a great opportunity for me to become diplomat, 'cause i wanna study political sciences. :)

@Stuffzhappenin
I strugle with that question as well.
I was born in Belgrade, Serbia and lived for 2 years in Beli Manastir, Croatia, and than moved to Kula, Serbia where I still live now.

Petar is not right. Some people, definitely NOT all people in Serbia, are narrow-minded and conservative.

I didn’t say that all people in Serbia are conservative and narrow-minded, i said that Serbia like country is coservative country, not liberal. Most of people in Serbia are conservative, at least 70%, which makes majoriy, so we can say that Serbia is conservative. At least in my town 95% of people are conservative. :)

Sorry about your father, stuffzhappenin. :c But it’s really amazing; how much you’ve travelled and experienced in such a short time.

Petar: Nice to meet you! Has the application process in your country begun again? :)

Sephrenia: Nice to meet you too! It hasen’t begun yet. But, it will be soon. In 15, 20 days for sure. What about your application process? :)

I’m slightly miffed. The 2013-2015 application was exactly the same for the 2012-2014 for my NC. Atleast i’ve had nearly a year to ponder on the questions.

Petar: Wow, that’s pretty late, though. Although I’m not one to talk. My NC’s application was released a few days ago. Which UWC’s are your top preferences?.

Purplesweater: Haha, same here. I know exactly how you feel. :P

Sephrenia: I like all UWCs, i like the mission of UWC. It doesn’t really matter, but if i had to choose, i would probably choose Atlantic College in Wales or UWC-USA, 'cause i really like that countries. What about you?

Sephrenia:Purplesweater: My NC for last 2 or 3 years gives almost the same application. :)

Now that the US applications are submitted, I wondered if everyone would be willing to do a roll call. I’ll start.
Apollo6, US Midwest parent of D13 UWC USA, S14 reapplying this year.

P.S. While current students can give you the best info, I can answer some questions about UWC USA because I have attended teacher training there and visited my D a couple times.

@Apollo6 Are we making a continuous list or is it just stating who we are individually?

If it’s individual, here’s me:
Stuffzhappenin, Sophomore (Grade 10)/Year 11(England)/Secondary 4(Scotland), British-American-Nigerian, UWCGB National Committee applicant.

@Petar
Where did you get that information? I asked Marko and Đorđe when will the application process start and they haven’t responded yet.
Also, if you don’t want to attend a class in Eastern Orthodoxy, why didn’t you take Građansko class instead? :)

Applesauce21, junior grade 11, year 12 (England), British UWC applicant

@Apollo6 this was a good idea!
