P.S. I applied through the Chinese National Committee but am here on my American passport and I consider myself Cantonese ;)

@littleivy: If you are willing, I’d love to ask! What does a normal day consist of? How long are classes? (Are some a lot longer than others?) In short, we’ve seen blurbs from other current or former students, but everyone is different. So. Can you give a brief outline of YOUR life at UWC and your experiences there?
Thanks!!! :D

Hi there :)

Has anyone had an interview for their UWC app? If so, which national committee are you applying through? Thanks!

UWC alumnus to become King of the Netherlands - http://www.uwc.org/about_uwc/news/uwc_alumnus_to_become_king_of_the_netherlands.aspx

I second knoxandonyx’s questions. Also, @littleivy do you know anything about the Arabic program? I’m really interested in learning Arabic and it’s one of my reasons for choosing AC.

20 days, guys!!! But who’s counting? … Oh, wait. Me.

Me, too. I’ve been anxious since the first day I started filling out my application, and it’s been quite a while since then. It’s weird to think that my future will be decided so soon.

Other than stressing over the 20th, what else is going through people’s minds? Like, are you guys worrying about the interview if you get one? What you’ll wear, talk about, etc?

You don’t need to stress about appearance too much. UWC is an open minded organization. I think they suggest “business casual”. I remember a blond male applicant my daughter’s year with Rastafarian locks. I was surprised by the way he presented himself but they loved him. He’s a great kid graduating from Nordic this year. Sorry, you’ll have to find something else to take up your time.

You could start thinking about college preferences and visits. It is VERY difficult to visit colleges after you begin your studies at a UWC. Of the 10 schools my daughter applied to, she had only visited 1.

I’ve got quite a lot on my plate, mainly academic things but it isn’t really that bad right now. Re-drafting essays, prepping for my music exam(performance) and a myriad of other activites are what my days are currently filled with. But, Lord Almighty, Am I the only one that’s been stalking my national committee’s Facebook? I’m just so anxious to know if they’ve started reviewing applications yet! On a brighter note I have a Duke of Edinburgh hike coming up and I’ve been nominated for a Maersk Award (wasn’t expecting this I didn’t even apply for it!).

Anyone else have an major extracurricular things going on? Would be cool to see what all of you are interested in-I already know what some of you are involved I’m just curious to learn a little bit more.

This is probably the first time in three weeks that I’ve gotten the chance to sit and and breath. Life’s been crazy busy. I just had finals and then this week was the first week of new classes. I was interviewed about the volunteer/leadership program that I’m on the board of (which required writing a long speech and practicing it), a club I’m part of at school has “No Place for Hate Week” coming up and that took a lot of prepping. We had to get guest speakers and activities and the funding for everything. Plus, I tutor refugee children weekly. So really, I haven’t had much time to even think about UWC, which is good I guess, haha.

@lindzmm woooow that’s crazy busy!
@ I do DofE too!

Hey guys, this is a little off the topic of UWC, but I was wondering if any of you know of or have been to any cool summer programs. I did one of the Oxbridge Academic Programs two summers ago in Oxford, and then last summer I interned for the Mayor, and I’m starting to plan this summer so I just thought I’d ask.
I know Brown has a program I might be interested in, so does Harvard and Stanford, but Brown looks like the best fit for me. I’m also interested in volunteer trips.
Really, I’m open to anything, so please let me know if you know of anything Thanks guys!

I’m actually probably applying for a scholarship to either the Cambridge or the Barcelona Oxbridge summer program! How was it for you? Which courses did you take? If I don’t get in on scholarship, I’m going to be applying to Smithsonian summer internships (they have a LOT of them, so hopefully I’ll get one!). I don’t have any recommendations for other programs, though, sorry!
