Oh, Rick Riordan! I loved his books when I was younger, and still enjoy them! I found the Kane Chronicles too perfectly wrapped in a bow at the end, and the Heroes of Olympus just don’t seem as good. One of my friends and I have ongoing debates about this series–are we the only ones who CAN’T STAND Jason and Piper (both individually and as an item)?
Thoughts, please!

What would all your parents’ have named you had you been the opposite sex? i would’ve been Kilian, which then turned into a beer brand … oh well. Can’t be much weirder than my real name, Thule, which is the name of a storage container you put on cars.

My friend’s middle name is Artemis, and her two sisters have middle names from the Lord of the Rings (Arwen and Lorien)! She has a really, really awesome mother.

Artemis is awesome! If I was named for a goddess, I’d prefer Athena, or better, Athene. Currently, I’m obsessed with the name Andromeda.

@garyoak Yeah, it was accidental, but I noticed and then decided not to point it out XD

@knoxandonyx I hate Jason and Piper too! I’m glad someone’s in on that with me. And I would have preferred Athena too, had I had the choice.

@lunascreatures I noticed that too, and thought it was on purpose haha.

@garyoak I would have been C

I actually don’t know what I’d be if I was a boy, and I can’t for the life of me remember what my sister would have been.

I’ve been obsessed with naming girl twins, if I ever had them, Luna and Stella, but I’d feel bad for Stella because she wouldn’t have an awesome character as her namesake. If I had a boy and girl pair of twins, I’d go with Luna and Lysander. Sorry, future children. You’ll be cursed with unique names.
Also, Atticus is a name I’d seriously consider for a son.

My friend’s little brother’s name is Atticus! Their mom is Jacquelyn Mitchard, though, so I guess that explains a lot.

I have to own up to the fact that the only ruins I’ve been to are actually Roman ones … and despite my dislike for Roman ruins, they were cool because they were in Switzerland, and everything is cool is Switzerland.

If I had been a boy … um, my family has this weird thing with J names, so I might have been something like John or James, which is pretty run-of-the-mill (no offense to any Johns or James) though my mother swears that if she had been forced to give me a J name, it would have been Jesús, just to annoy The Family. Anyhow, glad I’m not.

Since we’re speaking of literature, has anyone read Kristin Cashore’s novels (Graceling, Fire, or Bitterblue)?

@mirvinvitela I used to name all the rocks that I collected when I was little Maya. No joke.

@lunascreatures have you heard of those crazy names that some parents in New Zealand gave their kids to be unique? Among them, I believe, was Salt and Pepper for twins and also ‘Thalula does the hula in Hawaii’ which was just the first name … crazy. I would definitely give my kid (if I ever had one, which I’m actually planning to) something different :)

@lunascreatures: You. Have. To. Be. Kidding. Me. Lysander? Really? I’m not the only one with an obsession for that name? OMG! (And I have a cat named Luna so that one’s kinda out for a kid …)

@lunascreatures I’m OBSESSED with twin names! For a girl and boy, I love Zack and Zoey, or Ellie and Ethan… It’s just so fun!

I guess my parents knew I was going to be a girl early on, so I didn’t have a boy name, but I like my name. You all have such unique names, I feel like Lindsey is so boring compared to all of yours :p

@knoxandonyx my sister lives in Switzerland! and I’ve read Graceling and Fire, but not Bitterblue. I adored Graceling but Fire wasn’t as unique, it seemed like a lot of other YA lit to me and I didn’t like it as much. I still enjoyed it, but Graceling was way better. I haven’t read them since middle school, I’d forgotten about them, actually!

@lunascreatures: Did you read the picture book Stellaluna when you were little? It was my favorite …

Andromeda for a girl, and since you’ve taken Lysander, I’ll say … Dante for a boy, if I were to have kids … which I’m not leaning towards at the moment, but whatever. :)

@garyoak Can we be best friends please? That’s the best thing I’ve ever heard. And my parents had a friend in high school named Tallulah Mountain Singer.

@knoxandonyx Yaaaaaaay Lysander! Midsummer Night’s Dream
also, Luna Lovegood had twin boys named Lorcan and Lysander. Assuming they took their dad’s name, that would make Lysander be Lysander Scamander…goodness, wizards, your names are ridiculous.
@lindzmm my name is just different enough that people get it wrong ALL THE TIME but just “normal” enough that it makes almost no sense to get it wrong - it’s Natalia, but people (substitute teachers) either call me Natalie or put an unnecessary emphasis on the “I” (because they pronounce is Natalie-ah. It’s just Na-ta-li-a. Emphasis on the second syllable).

@Knoxandonyx Stellaluna the bat? I remember that, lol

@lunascreatures hahaha i can totally relate. Since my name was picked in a country where ‘th’ was just ‘t’, since I moved to Canada EVERY SINGLE substitute teacher says something along the lines of ‘thool’ with a soft ‘th’ instead of ‘tula’

Ah, losing track of who I’m replying to, but yes - I love stories about weird names, but I’d want to give my kids something manageable! And everyone always mentions Stellaluna when I mention my twin-naming plans.

@lunascreatures Natalia is such a pretty name!! I can’t see how people get that wrong, it’s not that different… I really, really like that though!
