Anyway I don’t know if you are instate for VT. I am surprised you didn’t get in too. I hope you have some safety schools that you have been accepted to that maybe more suitable for you. You can always try to transfer into VT after one year at another school. Best of luck and congratulations to all that got in. I hope you have an amazing college experience. The four years go by too quickly. Wherever you all decide to attend make the best use of all the resources made available to you. There are multiple paths to achieve your goals. Congrats once again.
Has any international applicant received a decision yet?
@therealest101 i got mine on 22nd Feb. International student from India
@vacollegemom4 Thanks for the kind words. S loved being at UCF last summer for the Cybersecurity Camp and really do think it’s the most suitable place for him. For some reason, he wasn’t as excited about Virginia Tech, Texas A&M, or even the University of Florida (the latter two having significant financial obstacles to overcome as well). He likes George Mason University – it’s rapidly developing a terrific reputation – but S (though he loves his family) wants to go to college more than 20 minutes from the house. (I was the same way – must be genetic.)
So he’s off to UCF. Only thing he needs to be reminded of – wear plenty of sunblock!
@VABogart I see a Costco trip for sunblock in your near future! We’re dealing with the blow of being waitlisted yesterday. We paid JMU deposit last night and I’m headed down there today to pick up t-shirts and sweatshirts to get this party started!! In the end I think the research opportunities and smaller community feel at JMU are going to be a great fit for him. One thing is clear-these boys have Moms that will support them to the moon. :D/

I got an email saying that my application is being considered in the honors college but I have not heard anything back.
Does that mean I was rejected from VT’s Honors?

@HonorStudent0 My S was told all decisions should be made by April 1. They said decisions would be delivered by postal mail.
Good luck!
D got an email today that financial aid decision was in. She got 7K provost achievement scholarship. That’s more than I expected, but she has decided that she doesn’t want such a big university. A great school, but not to be for us. Good luck and may big $$ come to all who need it!
My son was accepted into NC State ( That’s instate for us) but not into COE. They put him into University studies. So lets go HOKIES!!!
Does anyone have a groupme link that I can join?
I wonder if scholarships are reassigned if the person that recieved it originally turns it down?
I hope so @eaglemom2014! Because there’s a good chance my S ends up at VT and we’ll take anything more they care to offer.
Here’s a question… Do you think admissions would give a “returned” scholarship to a student who has accepted and paid the enrollment fee or would they give it to someone who is undecided? I’ve always wondered if that is considered during the allocation process.
My daughter (who is ‘undecided’ but says she wants to go to VT) just got two ‘offers to apply’ for VT scholarships that we weren’t aware of until this week. They’re both small, so I’m hoping that will be the case for her once she commits.
Definitely wait it out. Even though they say they do not negotiate financial aid, my parents called and asked about additional financial aid and additional scholarships and explained that I could go to my state school for about a quarter of vt. Next day I got the provost achievement scholarship. The only downside is housing can get pretty bad, from what I hear, if you wait too long.
FYI…
@STEM2017 your question is an excellent one and I’d love to know the answer! My in-state child applied and was accepted early decision to one of the performing arts majors. As some background, same child was offered admission to one of the top schools on the east coast for this major - because the talent is there and came through in the audition. In addition, child has been in all state ensemble all 4 years of high school and is assistant principal of section this year (next week!). but LOVED VT - even though this is not what the school is known for, child is very “chill” - would not fit in at a cut throat performing arts college. And, it seems VT performing arts students are going on to greater graduate schools after this program. Met and LOVED the faculty. So we felt early decision would be great - we knew by Christmas, the tuition is cheap for us in-staters, and we plan on using our leftover savings for grad school. Our one and only disappointment was no offer of performing arts scholarships. They DO give them - and they DID send out offers - but we did not get one. We did not need the money otherwise we would not have applied early decision, but it would have been a nice validation knowing that child got a scholarship at a college where child may have been a top talent.
That being said, I did wonder when we checked the “early decision” box that reminds you that it is binding regardless of financial aid being offered, would child get a scholarship if they weren’t announced until after the deposit had been paid in January. Knowing that scholarships are usually used to entice students to attend, right? Why would they need to entice an early decision applicant who has already accepted and paid the deposit?
We will probably never know the answer but I’m hoping that is the reason my child didn’t get a scholarship (and keeps us from feeling insulted )
@AnneShirley I have to believe that when given the choice between awarding the money to a locked in ED student or a prospective student, it just makes more sense to give it to the prospective student. Therefore, S is waiting to submit his enrollment fee until we have heard about all scholarships.
