Anyone here is a non-trad, independent student?
I am
I have nobody else to tell but I got offer an internship at a nonprofit I love!
what time can we likely expect notifications if they come out today?
@polyscidreamer Congratulations! That’s awesome

@IndirectProofs I’ve seen your posts around most of the transfer threads I’ve been frequenting Did you apply to Columbia GS?
@theriley106 yeah, I am on a lot of threads. No, I didn’t apply to Columbia GS. I don’t like the name, “general studies” I know that is a silly reason, but it’s true. It just sounds so generic (don’t tell Columbia I said that).
Why can’t it be Columbia school of Arts and Sciences or Columbia school of science?
oh okay! thanks so much!! good luck
You are a math major: What was the highest level of math you were able to accomplish at your CC?
Do you know how well these schools accept transfer credit for Community College advanced math courses? I was thinking about taking some extra math over the summer, but I wasn’t sure where–CC is cheaper, but I don’t want to risk it not being able to transfer my coursework.
@OwlOfAthena I’m not sure which is considered the highest, but I took Modern Differential Equations, Discrete Math and Calc 3 all in the same semester and I think those are the highest. But a few years before that I sat in on a MATH 431 class at a university and got an A on the final. I couldn’t afford the class but the professor let me take the exams and wrote a letter of recommendation for me.
My situation is highly unusual in that I’m so far ahead in mathematics. I submitted a solution to a math journal that was graduate level math.
That is truly awesome! Very inspiring! I think you will achieve great things (you already have). Did you apply to Brown? They have a very strong math program, if I remember correctly.
What is MATH 431? I believe, every school’s course codes mean different things.
@OwlOfAthena It is really hard for me because I have no idea what these admission’s committees prioritize. I do think my story is inspiring and I’ve actually been giving talks at several math events. Just recently my math story got published on a math website. I’d like to think all of this might help me get accepted, but who really knows. I have a very low gpa from a very long time ago and that could be something that prevents me from getting accepted. I have two 4.0 gpas from more recent coursework at two community colleges.
Math 431 is Real Analysis
I did not apply to Brown because I’m no eligible they want you to have less than a certain amount of credits completed.
anyone know if first wave is rejection/acceptance?
@transfer2000002 what do you mean by this? The first wave contains one of 3 options: acceptance, waitlist, rejection.
@Quakerdude okay thank you!!
