Vanderbilt Transfer Thread [Fall 2017]

@watermychances Lucky lol, my counselor literally hasn’t emailed me back once

@Mastodon97 Yea, well I’d trade my responsive counselor for an unresponsive one if it meant I get accepted. But Anisha’s been really great, I’m glad I got lucky I guess. Good luck everyone.

Also @limitsbylaw , I wouldn’t email your admissions counselor for a new EC. It’s awesome that you got a cool summer internship/activity, but this is probably the most stressful time of the year for college admissions counselors and they really don’t need emails about every prospective student’s new job/summer internship. The only reason that I could think of to email a counselor now is if there were an issue with grades, a health issue that recently came up or in general just something much bigger/more important than an extra cherry on the top. Do what you want though. Good luck.

if you have a responsive admissions counselor they’d be more than happy to add your new EC. even if you don’t no admissions counselor will hold a grudge against you or think you’re annoying for updating your application, that is ridiculous.

I think there is some line that has to be drawn somewhere. Stuff is going to happen between submitting the application and decision day that doesn’t need to be told to your admissions counselor.

“My job went from 20 hours a week to 22 hours a week” being an example. Who cares.

Line could well be different for everyone though. I would err on the side of telling them if I thought it would help.

Do you guys think they’ll start reviewing our apps now that class of 2021 decisions are about to be released today? I’m assuming they couldn’t start looking into transfers while regular applicants still remained.

yeah probably after RD decisions are released

So are most of us stuck in checklist limbo? lol

They’ll probably start reviewing us tomorrow, cuz they’ll start releasing by the 11th

@Sarangatang Releasing by the 11th? Sheesh that seems a little early hahaha, are the decisions released on a rolling basis?

Anyone else having trouble logging in to MyAppVU? Every time I try, it takes me to a page to create a new account.

Last year it was the 11th but this year the waves should actually begin on the 10th. Its typically the 2nd Monday in April

Oooh jeez, I thought I would enjoy April before the rollercoaster of agony and joy began in May :))

@limitsbylaw I just logged onto mine, it worked fine. I made the MyAppVU using my Google account.

Quick question! Just received an email from my congressman’s office. I applied to the Air Force Academy last year and received a nomination. I was told that he would be willing to write a letter of recommendation for me for anything I may need. Should I have him write one even though applications are well past the deadline? I could have him send it to my counselor’s email. What do you think?

@RunnerDude14 I personally think it’s a little inappropriate to have a professor/other write a letter of rec a couple weeks after the deadline. You had ample time to ask him/get a letter before the deadline imo. That being said, at the very worst, the admissions counselor doesn’t read the letter and it doesn’t factor into your admissions decision. You could go for it, but idk, if it were me I wouldn’t do it. At this point, we are all done with our apps and sending in that little extra piece is just a little frivolous imo. If it were a big grade thing, I would update your counselor, everything else is unnecessary imo.

@watermychances I was thinking the same thing. I figured it wouldn’t necessarily hurt, but it likely would not add much value. I’ll likely save the offer for a future endeavor!

Ahck, you all are right. They do release decisions pretty darn early comparatively speaking :-SS

I mean, from the looks of last year’s thread, there was a surprisingly high number of acceptances (corresponding to Vanderbilt’s unusually high transfer acceptance rate reported on the CDS). That’s great news for us!

This thread is also just as active(if not more) than last year’s which is also neat.

On another note, they don’t seem to release decisions based upon your application submission date nor your last name. It all does seem random(which may not be the case, who knows.)

Does anyone know the chances of getting in the School of Engineering? I found most people were admitted to A&S from the former threads.

Hi friends! I tried checking my portal today, but was encountered by this error:

An error has occured while trying to log you in. Error Messge:
java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: -14
Please try again later…

This has been here for two consecutive days now and was wondering if anyone else was stuck in this limbo…

@JSPHHAN Mine has been working fine. You should try contacting support. Apparently it happened to some people in the RD thread as well. Maybe they already uploaded your admissions decision lol.
