Vanderbilt Transfer Thread [Fall 2017]

Yeah, what somehmonggirl said. I had my status read that the reccomender ‘started’ but didn’t completely submit letter eve though they at least uploaded the letter. If they do not submit, it isn’t sent so I had to tell my writers that.

The Common App system wasn’t compatible with my school’s system, which made it a real pain for them trying to submit those LOR’s

Does anyone know the Vandy deadline for enrollment deposit for transfers? I know there’s a national deadline of May 1st, but there’s a chance many people will not hear from Vandy before May 1st . . . I know I have to decide between three schools (Vandy included) before May 1st, so this puts me in a bind. Any thoughts? Thanks!!

It varies based upon when you are accepted, and will specify a date in your acceptance letter.

Typically you are allowed 2-3 weeks.

For clarity, a decision does have to made by May 1st, whether you have heard from all universities or not. So if you’ve only heard from your safety by 5/1, you have to send them $300 or $500 (whatever it is) to secure your spot there, and risk losing that money should you be accepted and choose to attend elsewhere

No. Guys, that decision deadline refers to freshman. lol

For transfers, it’s tricky because of the scattered decision dates and the 1-3 week deadline. Typically, you can ask for an extension or you have to simply put money down to be safe and hope it’s refundable

@somehmonggirl Depends on the university. Most universities use May 1st as both transfer and freshmen commitment dates, and it should be assumed as the date for both unless you are explicitly told otherwise.

-edit for your 2nd post-
I agree with those second remarks.

I figured that was the case. I’m waiting to hear back from my safety for a full-ride, and I’ll probably know in mid-April. I have two weeks to accept the scholarship, and once I accept it, it’s binding. Soooo if Vandy doesn’t get back to me with a decision by around May 1st, I may be forced to move on… which blows… Oh well! --thanks for the answers peoples!

@sixone If that scenario presents itself (week or so left and no word from Vandy), you may be able to either request an extension from your safety, or if they say no, for Vandy to let you know early.

Normally you’d probably never want to ask for your decision early, but under the circumstances they may let you know. Plus, if they said no, it’s really no harm/no foul.

Would hate to see you not go because you never got the choice!!

@mjr2013 I hear you! Depending on when I hear from the respective schools, I’ll make the decision to call Vandy as late in the ball-game as possible. You’re right, no harm no foul, but I’d hate to be a nuisance and ruin my chances . . . I know they’re probably up to their eyeballs in applications. I’m hoping for the best! Hopefully we’ll all hear something the first of next week.

Is it true that the largest major at the school is Economics? How does this affect me as a joint History and Economics transfer applicant?

College: top 75ish engineering school
Prospective Sophomore
Major: Mechanical Engineering
GPA: 3.96
ECs: Baja Team, Cultural Clubs, Internship @F500 aerospace company, active in fraternity and boy scouts (eagle scout)
HS: gpa 3.95

Also plan on minoring in philosophy, not sure if that would help or hinder my app. Main reason why I want to transfer is that I want a school that is not entirely composed of engineering students

Would love if anyone would chance me. i appreciate it everyone and good luck

@pearmetty honesty no chance

@pearmetty I think you have an excellent chance

@friendfriendly Are you serious? Based on his statistics he has an excellent shot.

@Mastodon97 who are you? do you work in admissions? schools are just so competitive now, we can’t just go assuming willy-nilly that everyone can just get in… its not like it was thirty years ago, or even last year…

@ILR2020 @Mastodon97 thanks very much I appreciate it. Not sure how much standardized tests are counted. I have a 2200 sat which is on the lower end of Vandy’s middle 50 percent

@friendfriendly Yea but a 3.96 speaks for itself. The only thing that could hold him up is a lack of college credits. @pearmetty did you submit a mid year report?
