@inordie good to know lol. I’m guessing it would depend on the school, but I’m just curious, do you guys know how adcoms actually decide on an app? Like is it a majority vote by multiple admissions officers or does it have to be unanimous?
That’s great! Increasingly nervous. Hope we could both in! @inordie
@luckybaby Yeah I really hope so. Vandy is my last hope. I am not very confident about my stat, but hopefully the school will find it in their hearts to accept me. I can’t really imagine myself getting accepted tbh lol
@Mastodon97 I believe most schools go by majority, but I don’t think anyone can say for certain unless they’ve been on the Vandy adcom.
No one could be fully confident. Best wishes ~ @inordie
@Mastodon97 Normally the counselor from your region (your main counselor) goes through your app in detail. And then at a meeting of all the counselors, your counselor will sort of share the gist of your app with all of the other counselors and share essays and such (they dont all actually read your whole app). All counselors then vote
I think
@VaishS Dang, that’s kind of intimidating knowing that so many people are gonna judge you on something that’s basically life changing for me. How long would you guys say they spend on a single app…like 10-15 mins?
@Mastodon97 nah I think it would be scarier if it was up to one person. This atleast eliminates being rejected just because your admissions officer is in a bad mood or doesn’t like the topic of your essay or something
Lol noooo, I doubt more than like 5-10 min (max).
@Mastodon97 Can I ask you a question. Did getting into UNC make you more, or less stressed about Vandy decisions and why? I’ll tell you my response after you.
Also everybody keep in mind Vandy is on central time. So even if they did post early in morning it would be 10 EST. Moreover remember this a fluid process subject to change every year. So while how they did it in the past is the best indication of the future it does not necessarily follow that they will do it the same.
Hey this isn’t the right place, but this is the most active thread so yeah. I kinda need help. Im trying to find past transfer results for Penn or even JHU or Cornell to try to see what kinda of a chance I have. Has anyone found any threads of past transfer results? Ive been looking but cant find anything
@VaishS I know when I was looking at Cornell that they had old transfer threads with decisions buried in them. Did you find the transfer threads? or can you just not find decisions? Also I think its fair to say that this is the best transfer thread so you might as well ask here.
@HopefullyIGetIn Definately less stressed. It’s my first decision I received back out of 4 colleges, all of which could have rejected me as they’re all tough schools to get into (though, of varying caliber). Now, I definitely have 1 in the bank, though I’d choose Vandy in a heartbeat over UNC. I don’t know how comparable UNC is to Vandy, I’d say that Vandy is definitely a little bit tougher than UNC, but it still gives me hope for Vandy because they’re both at least a little bit comparable. Hbu?
@HopefullyIGetIn Wait thats a good idea!! I was trying to find like a results thread but maybe I should just try to find discussion threads and dig through those. It will take a lot longer, but atleast Ill hopefully find something.
Thanks!
@Mastodon97 I feel the same way. However, I am still a little worried about Financial Aid for UNC. Like I know if I’m lucky enough to get into vandy I don’t have to worry so much about financial aid which is nice. Also after seeing your stats in the UNC thread I realized we are similar. We both had terrible GPAs in HS and good GPAs in college. Were also Econ majors which I think is cool. Also- Where did you apply to besides UNC, Vandy and Cornell?
@VaishS Yea its a pain in the but. That’s why we are trying to make separate thread for the Vandy decisions this year.
@VaishS However I do recommend to try to do something to keep your mind off of it rather then looking at old threads. At this point you already applied so I would watach a movie or something, rathering then obessing over old decisions.
hmm also, do the intensity of courses you take in college and number credits you took matter? Would you say colleges would prefer a guy with 3.7 gpa with 40 credits with fairly hard courses, over a student with 36 credit with 4.0 gpa with one of two difficult courses?
@HopefullyIGetIn Wow! Didn’t know that! For Vandy though, I’m actually an Economics and History major because I really like both and Vandy actually is the only school I know that offers a dedicated program in both. I also thought that it would make me stand out more than just another Econ applicant because I’ve heard that economics is actually the largest major at Vandy.
@inordie I’m guessing they’d prefer the applicant with the 3.7 GPA and harder classes. At least for employers, many of them will often chuck 4.0 GPA applicants into the garbage because they see it as an indication that the student didn’t really challenge themselves.
@Mastodon97 crying because that’s the same major as my ex (who goes to vandy) lollll
@Mastodon97 I love ECON history too, I would definitely do the joint major but I feel like the ECon on its own is more valuable in the job market. And I think Econ is largest cause they don’t have business/finance or something, so all those people do econ instead.
