Vanderbilt Transfer Thread [Fall 2017]

Yeah, definitely true. I’m honestly just interested in Vandy. Other than that I suppose my current institution is fine as well. I used to want to go to Northwestern, but they are even harder than Vanderbilt.

@Vandy2k17
Northwestern, despite its enormous endowment, doesn’t offer need-based financial aid to transfer students in their first year. That surprised me a bit, as it was one of my choices too :frowning:

Well, we’re here to offer advice, but it’s ultimately up to you. Fingers crossed!

I had no idea that Northwestern doesn’t offer need-based aid to first year transfers…??? I was planning on applying there also.

I’m also applying to Northwestern, lol. I’m sure they must offer it, because they have deadlines for the CSS and everything in March time, why bother collecting the tax info etc from the fiscal year that affects the upcoming school year if they have no intention of disbursing need based aid to those students? Maybe I’ll send an email asking. There’s a thread for Northwestern transfer applicants as well, but it’s not super active.

http://admissions.northwestern.edu/faqs/transferring-to-northwestern/index.html

“Northwestern grant assistance is generally not available to transfer students during their first year at the University.”

@somehmonggirl , @sixone
I still encourage anyone to apply- it’s an amazing university. It’s just an odd thing that they don’t offer grants to transfer students in their first year.

Yeah that’s ridiculous. Vanderbilt is very generous with their FA and just a few miles away from my home. Feb. 11 is fast approaching I will let you all know m ACT score when it comes in. Super pumped.

We’re all rooting for you @Vandy2k17 ! I can’t wait to see your reaction when you get the accepted letter :slight_smile:

Thanks, that helped me so much. I hope to see you there this fall. BTW do you know if sending a low score hurts but lets say my first score was bad, but the second was much higher. Would that hurt my chances?

@Vandy2k17 , Well the alternative would be not sending any scores at all, right? If there was a significant improvement, or better yet, if they -ask- for all test scores then by all means do so. If they explicitly say that they take the highest scores, then you don’t have much reason to worry.

Hey everyone,

Figured I would jump in the conversation here. So I am applying transfer to Vanderbilt. I’m currently a freshman taking 17 hours, 4.0 from last semester, and straight A’s so far. I pledged a fraternity and have taken an executive position already. I’m also the president of a club and the owner of a company that did $30,000 in sales last year, and projecting $50,000 this year. I know the professor reccomendatoons weigh heavily. I have three professors that have told me they will write a strong letter for me, seeing as though I’m the only person who participates in their classes.

I applied to Vanderbilt last year and was denied. That’s likely because of my 31 ACT and only top 25% of my class. However, I know that now is as good of time as any to apply. I just don’t feel at home at my current university. Plus I’ve realized I want a stronger business minor, which I know Vanderbilt has.

It looks like the acceptance rates in the past have been around 25%. Is that staying true now?

Thanks in advance!!

@RunnerDude14 , are you going to try to reapply to the other top colleges you wanted last year? :slight_smile: And is your major still mechanical engineering?

@AGoodFloridian I’m Aersopace engineering right now. But I do not think I’m going to apply to the same schools. After being deferred and waitlisted, then denied to most of them I just don’t think I have a chance. However my engineering professor taught at Yale for 14 years and said he could “heavily influence my chances of getting in.”

Well the problem is that it was a score I sent a while back now they already have it, but it was very terrible score. I hope this new score will override that previous one.

Hi guys!! Congrats on choosing to transfer to Vanderbilt! I’m a current student at Vandy and I transferred here last semester… if anyone has any questions or wants any more information about the school or what it’s like to be a transfer here, feel free to message me!

@ezak9596 , what was the first thing you did once you got on campus? And how has your experience there been thus far? :slight_smile: Thank you!

Hey, how was the initial transfer process? Were they more lenient on transfers than other schools?

Hey! would anyone take the time to chance me? I know these are not necessarily accurate, but my stress level is high enough as is! haha

@Anon2017 I think you have a strong chance of getting in. They look very very closely at college record for transfers and you’ve done a lot of great things as well as kept an amazing GPA up. I would be pretty confident with those stats! Don’t forget to come back to the thread when you get accepted to let us know the good news! :slight_smile:

Also- I got waitlisted with stats that hardly can compare to those! (Except my ACT was a bit higher, but literally only by one point)

Wow thank you for the encouragement! May I ask what your stats originally were? What would you recommend I do to increase the odds of my application being accepted? Vanderbilt is my #1 school by far and I hope to high heaven that I get accepted.
