I’m applying as a Biological Sciences major in the CAS. I know my GPA isn’t as high as those reported in earlier posts, but I’ve taken a rigorous course schedule with 25 units of chemistry, 10 credits of physics, 19 biology credits, and calculus. I feel like it could go either way, but hopefully I’ll get some good news.

Also, for those of you who have already submitted your application, did you have your professors mail your recommendations directly to Vanderbilt, or is there a way to submit everything online? Thanks for any help!

SMH, i think your stats are really good. A 3.74 gpa is awesome and so are you ECs and course schedule!
Everyone on this post has a good shot, it seems like. Guess we’ll have to wait until April or May to find out.

Zesty - It says on the Vanderbilt website @ transfer: “Vanderbilt reserves the right both to be need-aware and to create a waiting list for transfer applicants.” So I assume financial need is one of the things they take into consideration. Wonder how much weight it carries.

Hi I’m also trying to transfer for fall '11…I went to a private high school and applied ED to Vandy last year and was rejected. I’m now at a highly selective LAC and applying to transfer only to Vanderbilt…does anyone know if having applied ED in high school will help me at all?

I don’t see how it could hurt you that you’ve previously applied. If anything, it shows a lot of determination and desire to be at Vandy. That said, the most heavily weighed part of your application will be your college record in addition to your HS stats if you’re applying after 1 semester.

And I really hope that Vanderbilt is need-blind with their admission. Without significant aid, it’d be impossible to attend if I were to get in, so that would be highly disappointing if that held me back.

Reading the 2010 Vandy transfer thread, many of those who were accepted stated that they received a good amount of financial aid. One of them said he practically had a full ride based on the financial aid given. I guess we’ll have to wait and see (those who get accepted at least).

Here’s my question -
On last year’s thread, many applicants were notified in mid-april. However, the Vandy admissions blog says it will be in late May or even June. Do you think they just say that and try to get them out earlier to us?

I was under the impression that some decisions would be sent out around April 15th with more decisions being mailed out every week after that until there transfer class has been filled. Based on last year’s thread, it seemed to be pretty random. Hopefully we’ll be notified before May if our applications were submitted before the priority deadline. Obviously the longer the wait, the messier things can get with us possible having to arrange housing at our current schools.

Yeah. I think Vandy has a rolling admission system where they mail decisions mid April and then weekly afterward. I also read that you will most likely receive your decision during April and May. However, if you apply late you have the risk of not knowing until late Summer.

Regarding financial aid and whether Vandy’s admissions are need-aware:

"We make three important commitments to U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens which reflect our continuing dedication to making a Vanderbilt education possible:

First: Our admissions process is entirely need-blind your family’s ability to pay is not a factor in our admissions process."

Hey guys, I transferred to Vandy last year. Looking through everyone’s stats, I’d say all of you have a really good shot at getting in. There were a few questions I’ll address:

Is Vanderbilt need-blind?
Yes, they are completely need blind, even for transfers. Also, transfers get as much money as a freshman would.

Does being rejected for freshman admissions hurt your chances?
No. I was rejected for freshman admissions, as a transfer after my first year then finally accepted after my sophomore year.

Do high-school stats matter?
They matter very little. I had under a 3.0 hs gpa and a 26 act and got in. I will say that your hs stats will matter a bit more if you are applying during your first year since they only have 1 semester of college scores to make a decision off of. But if you’re a sophomore, I wouldn’t waste time retaking ACT/SATs.

If you guys have more questions post them here and I’ll check back occasionally.

^^ what were your stats like when you got rejected as a transfer your first time applying? what kind of college/university were you attending at the time?
thanks a lot for the help

@Chicago, I love it here! Honestly wish I had more time here because Vandy is awesome.

@transfer123, I was at a tier 4 state school (the same one I was in when I got accepted a year later) had a sub 3.0 GPA, decent EC’s but nothing too special. Plus, my high school stats were pretty bad, which factored in more since I was applying my freshman year.
