@kyshelen Congrats! Wow seems like there have been a lot of Peabody acceptances on the thread
SAT: 1510
ACT: 35
Unweighted: 4.0
A couple ECs and a job
I’m not sure if I’ll take the spot. I’m debating between UC Berkeley and Vandy
@totoro102 Whats your major? And youre from the bay area right?
@godores22 - My DS been debating about sending another letter of recommendation as well. He has already done quite a lot, though: his counselor called and talked to the AO, he sent a well-thought out LOCI within a few days, and has also had two more emails back and forth. We already visited campus last summer, and when he remarked in an email that he would like to visit again, his AO stated that was not necessary. Not sure if that’s a good or bad sign. I think that if he doesn’t get accepted in the next wave then he will ask his favorite teacher this year to send a letter pronto. There’s not much else he can do.
@godores22 intended major is either going to be MCB or BCB and I want to double major in either public policy, polisci or psych. and yea bay area
@totoro102 Thats going to be a tough decision. Hope everything works out and you enjoy Cal or Vandy.
@Choski94 I’ve considered having another letter of rec sent in, but I’m just not sure that the letter would give Vandy any new info about me that isn’t already in the other 3 letters. Only the first wave has been out anyways, so I don’t think we need to panic just yet.
Hey guys, I had a question regarding financial aid. If my friend applied for FAFSA but not the CSS profile, how does that affect how much money she gets?
It affects it a lot. Since Vanderbilt requires the CSS for need based aid, if your friend didn’t fill it out she won’t be eligible for any aid at the school level. She would only be eligible for aid at the federal and state level. The school states on their financial aid FAQ page that most of their aid comes at the institutional level (i.e. the school). The federal and state governments have set caps on how much they can give every needy student in the US.
@godores22 - my DS only submitted two letters I think. Both from core subject teachers. If he asked for a third, it would be from his choir teacher, who also ran the school musical that DS just starred in. So it would be a different and more personal perspective. But not new per se.
@Choski94 thanks for the reply! dang that sucks I guess we will have to see how much money she gets tomorrow
I don’t think it’s too late to turn in the CSS Profile and get money from the school itself. I was in the same boat, where I didn’t turn one in, and I got in contact with the Financial Aid office and the main man told me it is never too late to get financial aid.
Hey guys, maybe not the right thread to ask this in but I’m kind of scrambling to get answers and opinions on a situation I’m in at the moment. So I was set on going to Biola (small liberal arts school in Los Angeles) up until I got accepted of vandy’s waitlist. I’m already in Biola’s honors program which is supposed to be really good, but I feel like if I turn down Vanderbilt, I’m going to regret it. However, my main concern with Vanderbilt is the party culture and how the Greek life is very big at the school which I am not super big on, Essentially, Biola is a small and sort of sheltered school which I liked for some reasons, but I feel like Vanderbilt will open up so many doors and may make for a fuller experience. I’m so lost and I have like 2 days to decide so any and all input is well appreciated.
@nicolasdeadman Congratulations on getting in to Vanderbilt - I would say go with your gut and make sure you are completely comfortable with whatever decision you make. Best of luck deciding!
@haleyhaley2022 did you get to apply for CSS? i’m not sure how this will work out if my friend only has a day to determine if she’s going or not
@kyshelen I was able to apply for the CSS! The Financial Aid Office and Admissions Office were very, very understanding and even gave me an extension to pay the $400 matriculation fee until my financial aid package was complete. So, I’d tell your friend to go ahead and talk to Vandy’s Financial Aid office and turn in that CSS!!
@kyshelen The only thing is that I turned my CSS in on Friday, but since the office is open tomorrow, maybe she’ll be able to still turn her stuff in on time. I wish her the best of luck, though!
@haleyhaley2022 thank you!! let us know how much vanderbilt gives u!
nicloasdeadman—yes, Vanderbilt is big on Greek life. But it isn’t the only thing the school has to offer. Vanderbilt is bigger, and can propel you to an incredible career with multiple connections right out of the gate. Obviously there are so many more factors to think of. But I think you’d still be able to have a great social life without involving yourself in Greek life. After all, it’s nashville—there are so many things to do besides drink. Ultimately, go with your gut. I saw your stats posted a long time ago—you clearly are very driven and will be successful at whichever school you end up. Good luck deciding!
I have turned down my offer of admission and will be going to Cal. Good luck to all those on the waitlist! youll be incredible no matter where you wind up
