Vassar or Oberlin

I hate to start another "Vassar or..." thread, but the others I've seen have been helpful.

What would you say to someone making this choice, knowing that creative writing is the student's intended focus.

Thanks!

Vassar! My D is a freshman, loves vassar and is taking creative writing for her freshman seminar. She likes it so much she is considering minoring in it. the english depart is strong.

VI would have your d/s visit and talk with profs.assar is also a very well rounded student body, creative, yes, but pre-meds as well.

Creative writing is considered an outstanding department at Oberlin.
FWIW, a recent “NY Times best-seller” autobiography was developed while author (Ishmael Beah) was student at Oberlin.

IIRC Vassar’s dept, is considered “good” as well, so perhaps other considerations may come into play.

Vassar’s creative writing department is suffering from cutbacks due to the economic crisis.

I’m in English 205, a composition class, right now and I LOVE it. If these cuts weren’t impending, I would absolutely recommend Vassar to you as a great option for creative writing. But they are happening, so why bother? (I’m bitter. Just sayin’.) Vassar is, of course, a fantastic and lovely place otherwise.
