Vegetarians

ok i have to go so i will make this quick

n1h1 virus has shown similarities to the DNA structure to the pigs however it is different even if little. if you want to know more about it do a google search. also what Egypt did was an act of stupidity because the media blew up the whole thing. also listen to yourself before you post. how the hell would someone killing pigs be a proof that it came from pigs? so by your reasoning if new year i discover the first new flu virus and named it fish flu just because i was hungry for some fish at the time i discovered it. then someone people related that with fish and killed many fishes and drove the fishing industry down. does the stupidity of people proove that fish is related with the flu? because that is what you are implying.

anyhow i am done with this debate because frankly its just matter of choice so there is really no winner. its your choice if you want to be a vegetarian or not and like i said my mom has been one all her life.

good luck to everyone

uhm jpl, clearly you have not taken even the most basic economics course. you’re refuting the entire capitlistic principal of supply and demand. Of course supply will not go down the instant demand goes down, but it will adjust over time, therefore causing the supply to GO DOWN when there is LESS DEMAND. If demand increases, over time, supply will increase. (All of the above is assuming there is no shortage and the companies do not intend in filing for bankruptcy). You have an extremely condescending and patronizing demeanor. Just because the internet is “anonymous” does not mean that you should be rude.

I eat other people. There is no denying that this helps the biosphere.

i dont get why there are so many people that are AGAINST vegetarians in this forum. i mean if you don’t believe in it and don’t want to do it, then don’t do it. but you don’t have to burst everyone else’s bubble. let people do what they want.

I can’t imagine eating meat. After being vegetarian for 16 years, it just looks gross…

^ Hey you’re back. Long time, no see (at school and CC).

Man didn’t climb to the top of the food chain to eat plants.

someone outline why fish is often considered “not meat” in some way

also if you’re interested in animals and perception of pain, read “consider the lobster” by david foster wallace, article he wrote for gourmet magazine. it’s available on the internet.

@zoaxanthellae great, interesting article

Best wishes to everyone.

As jpl said, “In the end it’s a choice.” I just personally feel that being Vegetarian is better than eating meat.

the one thing i never understood was people’s negative response to vegetarianism.
i never judge anybody who eats meat, but a lot of times, when i tell someone i’m vegetarian, they seem to try to convince me out of it and get really defensive about their diets.
there are a lot more pros than cons to being vegetarian as far as health, economical, ethical and environmental reasons, if you do your research you realize that there’s not really any negatives to being vegetarian
one thing i realized in the process of converting was that i thought i liked eating meat a lot more than i actually do.
the quote that has always stuck with me was “animals shouldn’t die for your taste buds”

AHHH!! i gave blood on tuesday, and when they took my preliminary (sp?)test they said my iron levels were amazing =) yah vegetables!!!

i myself cannot imagine a world without steaks and roasted chicken, but i don’t really mind having vegetarians around me, and i try to respect their choice.
unfortunately, there is only one vegetarian i know in school- and she actually lets her serving of salad FERMENT(or rot, even, who knows?) in her locker. we have a lot of classes together-should i say something? it’s bothering a lot of people cuz the smell stinks up the hallways.

most overused defensive comment in response to why i don’t eat meat,“plants are living too” ughh okay then that makes you a double murderer/killer by being an omnivore then?..lol

^heck yes you should say something, that is disgusting

I’m a meat eater, and I respect others’ decisions to not eat meat. However, I really hate the elitist attitude that many vegetarians/vegans have. Although I agree that many pro-veg arguments are good, I don’t see anything wrong with eating meat either.

^i see that a lot too. it’s a personal decision, thats why i hate the “plants are living” argument. It is not something that you do to join a group of exclusive people with exclusive views, i dont bring up my diet around people unless the food may have meat and i need to ask, and i dont explain my reasons unless im asked. it’s not fair to judge people on what they prefer, so i totally see your POV.

I was one for 6 months and then I ate some chicken mcnuggets without realizing it until the box was halfway empty (I didn’t even realize I ordered them lol). That incident told me that my body and mind both wanted meat, so I gave in and ate a crap load of meat the next day. I never regret changing back to omnivorism, especially when eating meatball hot pockets

Oh, yeah, I am, kind of. I see you around at school times, but never really long enough to say hi (either that, or I feel to awkward…). I’ve also been around CC, but mostly not near HSL. So, how’s Animal Rights Club doing? Did you ever get around to having that petition?

Supply and Demand works in perhaps every industry but the effed up US food one. Because everything is controlled by government subsidies, supply and demand don’t control anything (take the ridiculous dent corn surplus as proof).

Personally, I think becoming a vegetarian would create an antagonistic relationship between me and food. Instead, I try to buy from local, grass-fed farms and thank the cow/pig before I cook it.

I’ve been a veggie my whole life, at first because of religious reasons, but now because of moral reasons.

In ancient India, scripture used to rationalize vegetarianism by saying that the killing of plants is the lesser of two evils. No matter what, killing plants OR animals is still killing, but it needs to be done in order to feed ones self. A fruit falls from a tree - it will die anyway. Therefore, by eating it, you are doing very little harm. The point is that you are trying to do the least damage, and that means eating plants instead of killing animals.

If the rest of your family isn’t vegetarian, that doesn’t mean you still can’t be. You can still eat essentially the same things, but you might have to subsitute a little. If tacos are for dinner, just put beans in your tacos rather than ground beef. If your family is having burgers, just use a veggie patty. Morning Star makes the BEST vegetarian substitute foods ever, from burgers to rice cakes.

So I haven’t eaten meat in at least two weeks and it’s been really easy (probably because I never liked red meat. i thought giving up turkey, chicken, and fish would be hard since it’s always around at every restaurant or fast food place, but it really hasn’t been hard at all). I officially declared myself a vegetarian this past saturday.

What are your favorite vegetarian websites, veg. foods, and veg. recipes? Do you have a favorite vegetarian/vegan celebrity? I don’t know why, but just knowing that Ellen DeGeneres is a vegan makes me want to keep going as a vegetarian hahaha.
