I have to say, I really like how Wellesley takes the time to send you mail. I know it's lame to admit, but these personal handwritten letters are really nice to read. A lot of us got that handwritten postcard from a student (well, except for me. I got an e-mail postcard from a student haha) and now I received a handwritten letter from the assoc. director of admission talking about my positive EE evaluation.

Even though you know these things are sent to everyone, doesn't it still make you feel special that someone took a minute of their time to write something for you? It just makes you wanna say, "awww"

It's quite a change from those monotonous college letters where the only personal touch is when the computer inserts our name into the designated space.

That is exactly what I was thinking when I got the letter. They go that extra mile. It makes me really want to go to Wellesley. I mean I just get a sense that they actually care haha. I guess it's a silly lil thought.

I don't think I got any handwritten letters or postcards...I did get normal typewritten letters and emails though. Nothing personal, really. Shrug I'm 100% certain I won't be attending.

Edit: ^Wow that came off as really arrogant. Sorry.

My daughter got an email from the basketball team, or one of the players on it. Even though my daughter is "likely", the note used language like, "even though you won't get your admission decision until later this month...", but they did want her to consider playing basketball. She never has before, so I doubt that's going to be a strong point in Wellesley's favor! :) She did get a nice email from the Music department saying they'd reviewed her supplemental recording and were looking forward to her joining in one of their groups, even if her major wasn't to be music. That one she liked much better! No handwritten notes or post-cards here, either. This whole month is going to be one big anxious waste, I can sense it already. Just hang in there.

I wouldn't worry about it. If you expressed a specific interest in a certain department, it's up to that department as to how or if they respond. And the personal emails/postcards/letters seem to be at the whim of the individual student assigned to that task, and their work schedule or commitment to the recruiting mission. If you already got a "likely", all signs point to that being the same as an offer of admission. Rest easy. I think at this point Wellesley is more worried about your not accepting an offer than not giving you one.

Yes. The balance of power is now shifting from students wishing that colleges would accept them to colleges fervently hoping that students accept their acceptances. Given the logistics of processing so many files, better than 90 percent of the competitive admissions decisions across the country have been made...the colleges are now focusing on yield and Wellesley is among the best.

Omg yay!!!! I got my little handwritten letter in the mail today. It was wonderful. Sure, it seemed a little formulaic, but the admissions person who wrote it did mention specifically what parts of my application she liked. I really appreciated it :)

crazedjunior, I applied to 4 major reaches and 6 match-reach/safety schools. Duke was at the top of my list of match-reaches and safeties (followed by Wellesley). Duke recently sent me a likely letter and I'm a possible merit scholarship candidate there, so I'm pretty certain that I won't be going to Wellesley now that Duke has accepted me. But this new personal correspondence from Wellesley DOES somewhat loosen my position. It's definitely a good marketing strategy and it does make me feel good about Wellesley. We'll see. I do love Wellesley and I just don't know right now!! And add to that the fact that my major reaches are notifying me in 3 weeks...eek!

So, I got my letter today and a phone call from another university. It is a nice feeling that the universities are trying their best to convince us to go.

Karibu, which university phoned you? That's really cool, congrats! I'm glad I got my Wellesley letter today since Duke notified me that I'm not in the running for merit money :(
