High School Senior Applying RD
Male Asian from Northern Virginia
3.78 Weighted GPA (Low I Know)
1460 SAT (750, 710)
8 AP Classes, 9 Honors Classes
Decent Extracurriculars, Summer Job on Political Campaign
Applying for Political Science Major in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences. I know that being Asian and from NoVa hurts me, and I know my GPA hurts me as well, but I have a high SAT and strong course schedule and didn’t apply for a highly competitive program.
What are my chances?
@DogLover5211 , Don’t take my word as much (still waiting on my son’s news and I’m not a VT expert) but I think your chances are really good. If engineering, it would be more difficult. Good luck!!!
Curious, on the JMU page, you applied as Finance. Are you now thinking Political Science?
The average admissions stats for Political Science can be found here:
https://irweb.ir.vt.edu/webtest/admission_data.aspx
In summary, the average SAT: math 604 / reading 639 and GPA 3.88 for the 2017 class. So, you appear to solidly in the upper average. IMHO, I think you have a decent chance.
Yes Finance is my first choice but my stats aren’t good enough for VTs business school so I went with my second choice for VT.
@DogLover5211 Makes sense. My fingers are crossed for you. I attended VT back in the dark ages, I had one son graduate from VT Engineering a few years back, and one son who chose JMU over VT (traitor ) and is a senior. Both are great schools and I am sure things will work out!
Thank you I appreciate it.
What are my chances at VT.
Applied for marketing
1190 SAT
3.5 UW (school doesn’t use weighted)
Bunch of Volunteer work
3 jobs
2 sport athlete
Lots of lacrosse awards
2 AP 1 IB
1 college class from a local community college
White Male
Okay so what are my chances taking into account the new information we have received? Btw, for the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences the Median GPA for freshman accepted last year was 3.89, the 75th percentile was 4.07 and the 25th percentile was 3.70. It’s gonna be more competitive this year but how well do my stats (3.78 and 1470) bode for me? I know I have no shot at engineering but what are my chances at the school of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences?
1460* sorry
