Virginia Tech Transfer 2013

Scoobielover your stats seem good to me! Just wait it out. You’ll find out in no time.

@hexxcoat should I email the lady that asked for my mid-term grades to let her know that I plan on taking summer classes? I don’t know how I should inform them that I plan on taking chemistry and math.

@VThopeful23 Thanks!

I think you should, but it’s best to do it only once. Gather whatever you’d like to say in one email and throw it all in.

As hopeful said, you have a good chance.

I just sent her an email! Hopefully she doesn’t think that I waited too long to tell her. I just decided on taking summer courses and I recently scheduled a meeting with my advisor as well. Thanks :)

Now just relax and tell us when you hear back.
Good luck.

Hey guys, I’m a 2nd semester Mechanical Engineering VCU student. Last semester, I took 19 credits (4.0 GPA) and now I’m currently enrolled in 26 credits + 4 credits by examination (only 2 or 3 B’s so far). Out of those 26 credits, I’m taking 8 of them at a community college

1st Semester: Chem + lab, Physics 1, Calc 2, English, and Intro to Engineering
2nd Semester: Astronomy, Mechanics of Deformables, Thermo, Modern Physics, Linear Algebra, Math Reasoning, Physics 2 (CC), Circuits + Lab (CC), and Calc 3 (by exam)

In high school, I had a ~4.24 weighted GPA in the IB program, 1310/1600 SAT, and 28 ACT.
Also, I took extra engineering classes at 2 community colleges and got a 3.0 GPA (3 classes) and a 2.0 GPA (1 class).

Since I was rejected the first time around for the engineering program (I got in for regular though), how do you think how I’ll do this time around and should I be worried?

On a side note, were we supposed to turn in a mid-term report? Thanks

Dude (or Dudette), chill, you look great and I think you’re quite smart and you’ll do fine…as far as you didn’t screw up the rest of the app.
With your stats you can shoot a lot higher than VTech (barring the SAT and ACT).
They didn’t ask for my mid term. I from what I’ve been hearing, I think it’s upon request.

Tushinator, you have a really solid chance. I’d be surprised if you don’t get in as a transfer. One thing though, you say you’re getting Calc 3 credit through exam. Is this through VCU or through CLEP or something else? I’m only asking because credits that you receive through exam at VCU will most likely not transfer to Tech, unless it’s through CLEP, AP, or IB.

^^ True.

namess, last year Virginia Tech did not admit ANY transfers for the spring semester. Its website said they were not accepting any spring applications. Also, they did not offer on-campus housing for transfer students in fall 2012, or it was very very limited.

^ That’s what they said but it wasn’t true. I was a helper for new student orientation for Spring 2013 and there was a mixture of transfer students and freshman.

I think they all got in during the Fall but had to come in during the Spring for what ever reason. Students from NVCC, William and Mary, UVA, and some high schools were strongly represented.

A lot of the transfer students got dorms as well. I’m guessing some freshman either transferred out or ended their contract early so some space was available. That certainly isn’t the norm though.

Thanks guys, that makes me feel a lot better. I was naturally stressing over this because I didn’t get into the engineering program as a freshman.

financiallylost, I got my calc 3 credit through examination by VCU. I don’t think AP, IB, or CLEP even offers exams for courses this advanced. I’m not sure about other schools (though I suspect it’ll be the same), but at VCU this is a 300-level course.

Anyone who received birds last week hear anything back yet? Starting to get worried!

nope nothing yet but im not stressing. will wait till after this business week to start stressing if i don’t get anything.

Well, I admire your patience! My friends are telling me I should just go ahead and celebrate but I really don’t want to get my hopes up even though so far no one has told me any reason why I shouldn’t? Yikes.

mollymcb Don’t worry! If you don’t hear by Friday at 5 pm then start to worry lol. Anyway, they said they will notify those who will be accepted by the end of this week. Give it some time!

Also, I received an email from VT financial aid saying that they were reviewing my application and will request for more information if needed. (I think it’s a good sign if you get that email)

Um well thats another thing I’m sorta concerned about. I’m coming from a community college, and my parents have been paying my tution with a pre-paid plan called the Virginia 529 plan (Not sure if you’re familiar with it) but basically a decent amount of my tution for wherever I end up has been prepaid since before I graduated high school. We never did FAFSA while ive been in my two years at community college which I guess is why I didnt think to apply for it now. Is it too late to still apply?

It’s never too late to apply for financial aid. But the priority deadline was on March 1st, so those who have applied and submitted their apps before then will be awarded first. You can still apply and receive aid but you will not be notified until sometime later

@mollymcb I haven’t gotten confirmation yet either and my parents did the 529 as well
