Virginia Tech Transfer 2013

@Tushinator Yea that’s it, Congrats!!

Chris11, would you know if that also means I got into my requested program or just VT in general? I applied to the College of Engineering.

How long has it taken for people to get accepted after they get their hokie bird? It has been two weeks for me and still no application update.

@tushinator - I don’t think there is any way of telling whether or not you got into your desired program, it only lets you know that (in your case) you’ve been accepted into the school of engineering. I applied for Mechanical Engineering and from what I understand reading over the transfer information, if you do not get into the college of engineering, you will be denied to the school. Transfer applicants cannot apply for General admission.

^If I am wrong about any of this, PLEASE let me know

@LSienkiwicz I got my bird almost 2 weeks ago, (Friday March 15th) and still no decision so you aren’t the only one! I’m hoping either tomorrow or friday they will update it!

@Tushinator I believe it depends on what kind of transfer you are, I’m also Transferring in Engineering(Mechanical) but I am finishing my associates under Tech’s Articulation Agreement. This is how i understand how it works from the VT rep that visited my school. All engineering students are granted admissions into the school of engineering & their desired program but cannot go right away. The first semester you’ll take General Engineering classes and they base whether or not you get to go into your school on your grades. Its kinda like were on probation but we have a slot reserved. If you do bad, I believe she said under a 3.0, Then you don’t have a guaranteed slot into your school and have to apply the same way any student who was granted general admissions would, which is really competitive. She essentially told me if you do good your first semester they leave you alone after that, grade wise. I think its sort of a weed out system just to make sure you can handle classes at Tech’s level. I’m pretty sure it works the same way for regular transfer students but i’m not 100% sure.

@Chris11, if you are correct, then Vt’s policy wouldn’t make sense for many students. For mechanical engineering, I will have completed by the end of this semester many sophomore courses, a few junior courses and almost all gen eds. If General Engineering courses are required, what courses would people like me take if we have already completed similar courses? I think what you are referring to may only apply to freshman. Like you, I am not sure about this so if anyone has more knowledge about this, please correct me.

@LSienkiewicz, How were you able to directly apply for mechanical engineering? On the application, I think I remember having general engineering as the only option. Did I miss something?

Actually, I found this: [Transferring into the College of Engineering | www.eng.vt.edu](http://www.eng.vt.edu/students/prospective/transferring)

Near the middle, it says that all engineering transfers are placed into general engineering and after 1 semester, we can apply for our major. Hopefully that means we can still take any engineering courses we want or else I probably won’t have enough to be a full-time student.

@Tushinator From what i understand you still take classes toward your degree but most engineering transfer students are behind by VT’s standard which is why they set their default semester as Summer, so they can catch up. Because of this many transfer students do not complete their degrees after 4 years, it takes them longer. I am personally doing 3 years so I don’t have to take summer classes and my workload won’t be overbearing. My two friends Im transferring/rooming with there are also allotting for 3 years and they’re doing Civil and Mechanical. But I’ve also talked to people who’ve finished in 2 yrs, so its not impossible.

anyone applying to Psychology that has a hokie bird but still waiting for a decision? i am getting anxious :)

@tush - I can’t remember exactly what I applied to whether it was the College of Engineering or specifically Mechanical Engineering.

What @Chris11 is saying makes sense though. I’ve heard that VT has a second semester of Into to Engineering that is not available at Virginia Community Colleges and many (if not all) of the 4 year universities. I was told that you must finish the second semester of intro to engineering before you take any other engineering courses in the college, which is also why Engineering transfers are granted admission for the Summer 2 semester if you applied for the fall.

@hokiehoping what are ur stats?

@hokiehoping Does that fall into the college of liberal arts and human sciences? If so, I’m trying to get into human development which is a major in that college, and I haven’t had any change in my app yet (I have the bird as well). It doesn’t sound like anyone who got their bird in the last 2 weeks has had any change in their app yet, so I wouldn’t stress it! im hoping we all hear something tomorrow or at least by April 1st. If I did get in for sure, I would be starting in Summer I, and I need time to figure all this stuff out (surely this is how everyone else is probably feeling).

Wait never mind I just checked and psych is the the college of science. But still don’t get worried!

Is anyone majoring in animal and poultry science? If so, have y’all heard back from tech yet?

Im starting to freakk out no hokiebird or anything…

I just checked today, and I got a Hokie Bird! However, when I click for specific details I get this message: “There is no transfer evaluation processed as of this date. If you have forwarded all final copies of your transfer transcripts to us, please allow more time for processing. Continue to check this website for updates to your transfer credit record.”
Should I be worried?

@lastchance08 Don’t fret. Transfer credit evaluation can take a while. I think it even states somewhere that it could take up to thirty days. Mine took a month to finish.

Hey guys, so today I got the hokie bird! Im totally siked, but still kinda freakin out because I had to withdrawal from a class this semester. Can someone tell me if I should let them know or just let it be. And can they take back my hokie bird because of it?

Hello! I am waiting for my decision from Tech to transfer as well, and I haven’t gotten the hokie bird yet. I was just wondering if anyone else applying in the same college as me (I’m a French major, so College of Social Sciences?) has received the hokie bird? I have a HS GPA of 3.5 and came in to college with 62 credits. I go to George Mason and have a 3.7 GPA, and will most likely have a 3.9 or 4.0 this semester. I’m also VP of French Club here. Good luck to everyone waiting for the hokie bird!

**To clarify, the college my major is in is Liberal Arts and Social Sciences

Please can someone tell me if internationals can apply for financial aid.
