I live in the Tri-state area and planned to visit Columbia next friday, Jan. 29. I just got an email from an alum about asking if i was free for an interview this upcoming tues., Jan. 26. Is it best if I say I am not available that day, thus giving me the chance to visit Columbia before the interview? I'm afraid he'll think I have little interest in the school if I say that i did not visit.

*Plus I have huge midterms (pretty much defining what my mid-year report is gonna look like) in the days after the interview. Grades count more than interviews right?

So am i correct in reschedueling the interview?

yes you are fine in rescheduling. just mention that you have midterms (very reasonable - i can’t imagine anyone who would not be okay with that). i wouldn’t mention that you are visiting columbia (makes me wonder, well why wait till now). and during the interview talk about columbia, but probably don’t say you just visited.

With track, schoolwork, SATs, and apps, I haven’t had a chance to visit Columbia until now. I pulled my hammy and I’m out of track for three weeks, so i figured that now is the best time. My parents don’t want me missing school and track was 6 days a week. 2-3 hours of practice after school and 90% of the time there was a 6-8 hour long invitational meet on Sat. Sundays were my hw & catch up days. thanks for the advice
