Two girls at my son’s school were accepted off Penn’s waitlist on Friday.

Someone mentioned contacting the chorus director and I’m wondering if I should do the same… I never sent in an Arts supplement, but as an All-State percussionist, should I try to reach out to their band director and let them know that I wasn’t just making things up when I said I was interested in doing band in college? Maybe if they know I’ll be involved in the school and it’s activities then I’ll be more likely to be accepted off the waitlist?

As for now, I’ve committed to Duke and already registered for a pre-orientation program, so I’m trying to make sure that, if/when I don’t get off the waitlist that I’ll still have a great college experience. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from this whole admission process it’s that in 5 years, we’re all going to turn out great…no matter where we go. If Penn doesn’t want me, that’s fine because Duke really did and I’m not sure there’s thattt much difference between any school in the top ten national rankings. At least this is what my parents are telling me and what I’m trying to tell myself all the time. As much as I would LOVE to go to Penn and am trying to do as much as possible to get in, I have to ask myself - is it really worth it?

@ anothercrazymom: do you know what college they applied to? Wharton, CAS…?

I am not sure, I think CAS.

Just wanted to know, any international applicants out there hear anything yet?

I’m an international student but I haven’t heard anything yet, my regional director told me that I should hear from Penn definitely by mid-June. I really hope it does not take that long.

I wonder if any of us international students have been accepted yet, so far it only seems to be US ones.

@ anothercrazymom: What state do you live in? Curious to see if this is being done by region. Thx

I am in NJ, but my S just graduated from Boarding School, also in NJ. The accepted girls are from NJ and Pa.

Thanks for the reply. Those girls are soooo lucky!

One is definitely going, one may stay with her Cornell acceptance.

I realized that all of the people who got accepted were either Wharton or CAS applicants, so
I just emailed my regional director again about SEAS waitlist and she told me that at this point there is no waitlist activity happening with the School of Engineering and Applied Science, but I should expect over the next two weeks for the decisions to be made. I am a bit confused whether there will be any waitlist activity with SEAS at all. I mean if there is no space available, why would they wait two weeks to notify us? But I don’t want to email her about that again because I don’t want to look desperate. Well, I’m not holding my breath.

My admissions officer got back to me saying that “there was still no waitlist activity to report”, but she expects decisions to be made “within the next two weeks”. She also said that she would add some of the updates I gave her to my file.

As we already know that there have been waitlist acceptances already, Im guessing that Furda and whoever else re-reviews the apps are going region by region and that they just havent gotten to mine yet :/

@ alized: It’s probably because some students may choose to withdraw their place from SEAS if they are accepted from the waiting list of another school, just like how we are waiting for Penn’s reply. That’s why they are not certain if they will be looking at the waiting list in these upcoming weeks, but then again, I’m just guessing here from what I’ve been reading so I’m not sure if this is the definite reason.

@ shultzie92: What region are you from? I still haven’t heard back from my Regional Director and today I asked my class (there’s about 4 other Penn CAS waitlisted students, 5 including me) and nobody has heard anything else and I’m from the Philadelphia region.

Feels so nerve-racking… hehe ^^

I guess I should follow the advice someone else said and just wait?

im from central PA. I know a legacy kid from my area turned down his waitlist offer. Im hoping there arent many waitlistees left in my region and I stick out for acceptance :P

Good luck. ^^
Yeah, I know at least two students who were accepted to Penn in April and who turned them down because they chose to attend Harvard.
Ahh… I really hope we make the cut.

My dream world: Penn accepts all wait listed students. LOL. Beautiful~ x] Hehe~

About 2 weeks ago my daughter heard from her college counselor that SEAS was looking pretty full but hopefully things have changed since then.

just think, the waits almost over! lol

I sure hope so. ^^
Best of luck to all!!!

Gah still havent heard anything, wish they could do an update email if they still havent made the final decisions Hopefully I will hear something (even if it’s to reject me) before the weekend…
