@navyblue123 Congratulations mate! Just curious, did you receive a notification that your application was accepted or did you acknowledge your acceptance upon calling the admissions office?
@Daz918
I found out about my acceptance via calling the admissions office. My message on the portal before it fully updated was something short like: “All of your materials were submitted on time.Thank you!” My portal updated the following day to me officially getting accepted.
@navyblue123 interesting. Congratulations though!
@navyblue123 how did you ask them to make them tell you because I asked and they just explained what the waitlist was.
I asked to talk to an admissions counselor and I asked her why I was waitlisted. After looking at my profile, she told me I was admitted. @bunny329
I was accepted for my second choice (CLA) in February. I was told by admissions counselor that I was on the wait-list for Carlson but my application tracker doesn’t show this wait-list status. How will I be able to tell if I am still being considered for Carlson?
I would call your admissions counselor to make sure they know you are still interested in Carlson. They’ll start to fill any empty spots off the waitlist soon.
@CWNWSS You may want to call and ask, and also find out what the chances are that you would get into Carlson if you are not direct admit. Are you willing to attend UMN with a different major? Did you commit to another school?
My son was admitted to second choice and told he was waitlisted for Carlson. The second choice CEHD called to welcome him and made a point of telling him it was very difficult to get into Carlson if you aren’t direct admit. Of course, I don’t know if they were speaking regarding him specifically or in general.
In my son’s case, he waited it out until April 30th and when he didn’t get off the Carlson waitlist, he declined admission to CEHD. He wasn’t willing to attend UMN without the guarantee of his first choice major.
Thank you for the info. I did commit to CLA in part because I was told that it wouldn’t impact my chances of getting admitted to Carlson. I am having second thoughts about attending U of M in CLA. I
wasn’t sure if they ever communicate directly to tell you that you are no longer considered for the wait-list. Where did your son decide to go?
Definitely call and ask. Your experience could be different than my son’s. His stats were low for Carlson. My son was admitted directly to the business program for other schools and wanted to go with a sure thing. He ended up choosing Iowa State.
You should ask
- are you still on the Carlson waitlist and what are your chances of coming off of it before school starts
- if you start in CLA, how difficult will it be to transfer into Carlson - do they have any restrictions on the number of students they accept
Thank you I’ll do that. I have a 3.75 GPA (4.0 my junior and senior year) 28 ACT. Varsity sport and community activities
Has anyone heard of people getting off the wait-list now that the May 1 date has passed?
I was just told by my admissions coordinator that the classes for all 7 of the colleges have been filled and they do not anticipate any additions from wait-lists
My daughter was denied at UMN earlier this week, but accepted at the University of Wisconsin. She’s going to be a Badger and not a Gopher, which is fine with me. My husband and I are both UW alumni.
What were her stats? Was she admitted into College of Letters and Sciences?
Her stats are on the first page of the thread. Since applying she qualified for the multi-state Speedo Sectionals regional swim meet in multiple events, she was inducted into the National Honors Society at her school, and she added an additional kick-butt recommendation from her club swim team coach who is an Olympic gold medalist and former assistant coach for the Badgers.
She applied to CEHD at UMN and the College of Education at the UW. I’m still surprised that she was denied at UMN even with her low ACT. It’s all good, though. The UW passes UMN as her #1 school in the last few months so she was very excited to come off the UW’s waitlist this week.
Congratulations!
