I have decided to take a year off before college, but I got a waitlist offer today. do you think they will let me defer a year even if they are accepting me for the purpose of filling this years class?

one of the colleges I was waitlisted at said in the decision letter that waitlist offers can’t be deferred

if you don’t mind, which school was that?

Yay for Brown!!! I did get a letter earlier saying that they would take people off the waitlist, but it didn’t say how much. Why must colleges be so vague? cries

snucky: i think it was colgate

alright, ill keep my fingers crossed… what a let down if they say no.

All the schools… I think. I heard last week that some sfs kids had been notified, but admissions said today that decisions have been made and letters have been sent. As of now I dont know of anyone who has received a letter.

But keep your hopes up, with Ivy league schools like Harvard admitting 150+ off their wait list, there should be some significant trickle down for GT

i’m a georgetown MSB enrolled student, but i’m also waiting on harvard’s waitlist… pray for me and you might get my spot! ;)

Eowyn are you an alumnus or a waitlisted student? What did the letter say?

Im praying, but I’m wait listed for the college

good luck

For everyone else who has gotten a waitlist offer: did the letter/college specify that waitlist offers could not be deferred??

thanks mcmatt and gadli I will be praying for you because Harvard is amazing and I’m on the msb wait list!

i’m gtown sfs waitlist, i guess we can all pray/hope/send happy thoughts out for eachother!

Anybody hear of somebody getting off of BU’s waitlist lately?

Smustehsan - My son was admitted to Penn and that’s where we sent the deposit. But he was w/l’d at Cornell (engineering) and Harvard (go figure). If he gets lucky with the w/l, maybe you’ll get lucky with Penn.

For everyone else who has gotten a waitlist offer: did the letter/college specify that waitlist offers could not be deferred??

Snucky,

Brown’s letter specifically stated that because they are trying to fill the freshman class, waitlist offers cannot be deferred.

Do you think that policy is the norm?

My friend just found out that he’s one of 45 out of 1000+ who got off the wait list at Yale. He was going to go to Georgetown.
Also, I have heard that Harvard plans to take 150-200 kids from their wait list this year. So have hope!

ham: your friend just found out about yale today? I thought they were done with this round!
