Waitlisted for Fall '08.

I'm a transfer from a US community college and I've been waitlisted for the Fall 2008 semester at McGill.

I'm driving myself crazy with all this, I've been accepted to transfer to the University of Florida which was my second choice behind McGill. I've been to both campuses and McGill is still very much my first choice (as it should be) however I'm exhausted by their admissions process; how long is too long to wait?

Each day that goes by I feel less and less like holding out for McGill. UF would be so easy for me to attend because well, I'm a FL resident, I've found housing, and I've already been registered for classes (at UF). I would not hesitate to drop everything at UF to go to McGill but at the same token I don't want to pursue something like that in vain and lose out on the housing opportunities I already have at UF.

I've read that sending a letter expressing my interest could help as could sending in letters of recommendation from former professors. Is this what I should do? Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would definitely try both. Explain why McGill is your top choice, how McGill will benefit you, how you can contribute to McGill, and any recent achievements.

However, perhaps first get in touch with the Admissions Officer who is responsible for your application, and go from there. I'm not sure how exactly to go about that since my university counselors have the contact info for a number of McGill Admission Officers, but I'd recommend calling Enrolment Services and asking them.

All the best!
