Waitlisted Harvard University Class of 2022

Got a call yesterday but didn’t call back until today. Accepted! Pretty surprised and very excited. Looks like quite a bit of mobility compared to other waitlists I was on. Deciding between Dartmouth and Harvard but I’m pretty sure that’s gonna be a very easy decision.

To me it looks like Harvard accepted quite a few less this year since it looks like they oversubscribed their class last year. Seems like a better solution except for those having to wait around until May for there acceptances.

For people receiving acceptances: did they call your cell or home phone number? I live in MA, so I get 617 calls occasionally and pick up both phones just in case. Also, if they missed you/you didn’t pick up, did they leave a message? Did they call you again or did you have to call them back if you missed them the first time? Thanks!

Set up a new account just to share our experience. We’ve gotten good information over the last year and wanted to return the favor and help others looking for info. Our child was on the Harvard waitlist and got a call yesterday (Monday) at around 2:30. She was unable to pick up the call in the moment, but she did see the call was from Cambridge with a 617 area code. They did not leave a message. She was able to return the call about 5 minutes later and spoke with an admissions rep who informed her that she was being accepted off the waitlist! They told her that she would get an official email on Wednesday, and that she would have until the following Wednesday to decide. We are all feeling blessed / shocked / surprised and pretty much saying that it will be “real” once we see it in writing tomorrow! Good luck to all those still waiting!

@musicomputer the same happened to me!!

Did any international student get off 5he WL yet?

https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2018/5/16/matriculation-rate-2022/

Going by the math we now have:
1962 admitted RD and SCEA (I don’t know if this includes z-listers who applied to be 2021)
82% yield rate (about)
1962*.82=1609 (rounding up)
Dean Fitzsimmons said about 1655 will join the class when they arrive at Harvard on August 27th
That’s between 40-50 off the waitlist as he predicted
(also wondering if the 82% yield includes those who defer admission? and other reasons for the number to change like summer melt)
With more possible admits off the waitlist today?:
“A number of waitlisted students are slated to receive formal notifications of admission Wednesday”
Could this mean more admits or just the ones already admitted are getting their portals updated?
And remember, if you aren’t cut in May, remember the z-list is still out there…

Yes, the article says on Wednesday people are slated to receive FORMAL notification of admissions, but I suspect that AC has already attempted to contact these students by this time. That means GAME OVER for those of us who did not get a call this week. Oh well, dream crashed, but life goes on. Congratulations to those who got in!

Not game over at all, they pick off the waitlist and form the z-list thru June. Seriously guys last week everyone was all upset about the unsubstantiated news that they were oversubscribed and only taking 10 kids off the list in June. Deep breath everybody. Namaste

@thespian18 Not over yet. Look back at WL threads from previous years. People were admitted as late as July 1st.

So they’ll take 57 students? Could they have taken all 57 on Monday, and if they did, would all 57 say yes? I agree with @MissyS, there might still be hope

@taylorharry Well, idk about your first question (if they took all 57 in one day) but it is likely that not everyone who is offered admission from the waitlist will attend. Some people accept the waitlist and forget about harvard, and when they get in, they realize they don’t want to go anymore.

I guess, from what I see in previous years threads, there is a second wave that is released in the may 20s. Those are extra waitlist spots becayse some people didn’t accept their offer of admission in the first wave. I think that’s how it works, anyway. And then the z list comes out in June, usually.

There are also people who committed to Harvard but got pulled off WL for another school they would rather attend that could factor in. There’s always hope, but keep in mind that it is a waitlist, anything or nothing could happen.

Where did the 57 number come from??

When will they start sending out rejections?

“Around 82 percent of students admitted to the Class of 2022 have accepted their offers of admission so far, though more students will be admitted from the waitlist in the coming months”

Literally in the first paragraph it says more students will be admitted. Everybody good luck! Fingers crossed

I’m calculating 31-47 off the WL. Article states an estimated class size as 1655. 82% of accepted students 1962=1608 (1655-1608=47). However, if you read the article closely, it states the actual yield as 82.8%. This changes the numbers by 16.

That said, I’m going to try to put it out of my mind for now…as it is consuming too much of my thoughts! 8-|
Congratulations to everyone who got in this week!

@MissyS 82.8% is the final yield rate for the class of 2021. the current yield rate is 82% for the class of 2022, and they aren’t releasing the exact percentage until the end of June because people change their minds.

@abbyt134 Thanks for catching that!
