Also remember that in the past, Harvard has stated a yield that ended up being higher than their final yield so the calculations based on 82% may be harsh. Last year, they said 84% in the initial matriculation statistics but their final number was 82.8%, so it’s likely the admission yield will drop to 80.5-81.5%.
Has anyone’s portal updated yet?
nope not yet
@triacontahedron not yet
FWIW: As previously stated, Harvard does NOT contact all waitlisted applicants at the same time. Admissions does it in “waves” or “batches” calling each student personally and allowing them about a week to make a decision. This process continues from May to June.
If you have not been contacted, it does not mean that you won’t be contacted at some point in the future. That said, Harvard also releases students from the waitlist in waves – and that is done by email notification. In years past, one of the “release waves” occurred sometime in May, another in June. So for some students, the process will be over in the next couple of weeks; for other students it will continue.
@triacontahedron lol if it had the first place they would be posting is here
Wow - that’s amazing. So there is an implied ranking in the waitlist in that some are rejected earlier than others?
^^ I’m not sure I would call it an implied ranking, I think it’s more like Admissions reviews the files of waitlisted students and decides some students are a better fit than others. So they release some students from the waitlist early in the process, as they don’t want those students holding out hope when it’s obvious Admissions will pass.
hope more coming soon
Portal updated.
My portal hasn’t updated yet
It is under “Forms”.
Does everyone else have an update dated today in the Application Checklist section?
Has anyone received the “formal notification” yet?
Nothing on my portal yet. What does it look like exactly?
Nothing on my application either. What does the “formal notification” or the update under “forms” say?
Most of those admitted of the waitlist will recieve a “formal notification” today.
Was wondering if anyone had. Many of those admitted received calls, but as I am international I don’t think they will call. So curious about the notification
Anyone else have a waitlist update under the Application Checklist section? I havnt submitted anything but there is an update.
@C0LHDre – yes – I have that too. I didn’t submit anything either. I assume they wrote something about my status that they will tell me someday. Good luck to you.
FWIW: In years past, Harvard has called international students when they are taken off the waitlist (even if that means an Admissions Officer is getting up in the middle of the night in Cambridge to do so).
Keep in mind that Harvard limits the number of international students accepted each year to about 10% to 11% of an incoming freshman class. That generally means an international student must have turned Harvard down for an international student to be taken off the waitlist – and I don’t think that happens very often, as Harvard is only one of five US colleges that offer need-blind admission and full-need financial aid to international applicants.
