I just got my letter in today that I was wait-listed for the U of Minnesota, and they would check into my 2nd choice college/major, and so and so (if there is space).

Here's what it says:

"Thank you for applying to the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities...Based on an overall assessment of your application...I sincerely regret that we have had to place your application on a waitlist.

If space becomes available in the freshman class, we will automatically re-review your application and consider you for admission to the colleges listed on your application, as well as the other U of M freshman-admitting colleges that may be a good fit with your academic preparation and interests.

cont."

Is there anything I can do in the meantime to increase my chance of getting accepted? Or, is wait-listing pretty much another definition of slow rejection? Due to multiple things, this is probably the only college that I have a chance to attend next year, if possible, so I'm really hoping to get in.

The other colleges I applied too are more difficult to get in, and I had thought that the U would be a safety school for me, which unfortunately doesn't seem to be the case. It is also financially friendly for me, and the only college that I applied that I can go to without scholarships.

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated :). It's extremely stressful now that I might not be able to attend college this following year because I had misjudged my chances so badly )x.

Edit: I'm not sure if this should be in the general forum or the U of M forum. If I mixed something up, I'm terribly sorry!
