ok so
1530 (800 verbal), 790 IIC/ 750 Chem/ 710 US History 1/487, national merit finalist, waitlisted

Now Im really scared, Wash U wasnt my first choice, my first choices are much tougher to get into (i.e. Duke and Princeton) now Im scared Iw ont get into them, what do u think?

I'm waiting on schools like Columbia, Penn, Swarthmore, Wesleyan, Barnard....
If I can't get in here, what are my chances at any of those?
Flippin burgers '09, here I come.

something isnt adding up, though.
No rejections? No acceptances since the diversity thing? Lots of ridiculously qualified people getting waitlisted?
Is the system screwed up? Have we jumped the gun?
Or is this really happening?

Guys, stop worrying. You're gonna get into better schools than Wash U. That's why Wash U waitlisted you. They didn't think you would attend b/c you'd probably pick better schools. Ivies and really good schools don't use methods like that so your chances are still fine.

*shudder.......i'm an international, and I was thinking along the same lines. Only my scores rn't that flash so my chances elsewhere r slim. I really would have liked to go to wustl too......

Wash U is somewhat notorious for looking at how much interest applicants show. Last year at my D's school they admitted the people who applied early but waitlisted (or rejected) EVERYONE who applied RD. Eventually 3 people were admitted off the waitlist (one for spring term, I think).

Counselors at D's school were adamant that students show interest to all the colleges they applied to. D's counselor even told her to make up questions she could e-mail her Wash U admissions rep; she didn't take that advice but she did decide to apply ED, which probably helped a lot.

Wash U is not a safety for anyone anymore; maybe some guidance counselors are a bit out-of-date and giving bad advice.
