oh wow, readytoleavehs, that is really horrible. please encourage her to write a letter, e-mail her wash u adcom, etc. this may bump her up on the waiting list. best of luck!

I, too, was waitlisted. Knocked me flat on my butt.

SAT: 1500 (composite, two 1450 sittings)
SAT II: 800/730/780
GPA: 4.6 W, 3.9 UW
Rank: Top 5%-ish

So, uh...right now I think it's kind of funny. I've been reading off stats of people who were waitlisted to my parents, and we've been kind of laughing about it. And dude, getting waitlisted after being recruited to play soccer? ***?

Anyhoo. They were my third choice, I've got two more schools to hear from (I was only allowed three non-safeties) and I'm sitting pretty on a hefty scholarship and the honors program at KU. Things could be worse.

journogirl05, i think my friend would love to be in your situation right now, good luck with everything

tell me about it journo....as soon as I heard I called coach clark and was like 'I got waitlisted, ***'. he was surprised as I. that's the difference between dI and dIII, dI has say and dIII has 'influence' regarding admissions. but I thought coupled with good stats (1500, 4.0, full-IB) I'd be in. oh well,ur very right, things could be worse.

What should I do now? I got waitlisted too.

Wash U is a top choice. I applied to Princeton, Yale, Dartmouth, Cornell, Johns Hopkins, Duke too, all RD. I think if I applied ED i'd have been in, but I would need to compare any finaid, since my family can't afford 4,000-plus tuitions a year. I expect rejects from P and Y now. I'm not confident of getting accepted to any of the other schools.
It's drizzling with rain, very gloomy weather outside, same as my emotions. I almost cried as I dropped my wait list reply card in the mailbox.
Shoot , now I think about it, it card may get wet with the rain. I'm gonna reply online to stay on waitlist too. Hope replying twice is not too redundant. What can I do to boost my chances at Wash U. I really want to go there if everything works out.

wow... I look at these ppl and almost all of them are better than me. I guess I really got luck in that I got in

Wow recruited and waitlisted? I dont' know but I'm suspecting they do coin flips. Looking at the decisions thread, it looks like having visited and interviewed greatly increased your chances, but still, many who showed great interest didn't get in and that's the suspicious part.

I still have 9 schools to hear from. Getting waitlisted at Washu didn't bother me too much; it wasn't going to chose Washu over ivies but I still considered them to be a good choice.

wow shawn lol no need to be so dramatic..chill out ull be fine..why didnt u apply to any safeties?

WAITLISTED.

Yeah, can't say I was too happy about being wait listed, but at least it is better than being rejected. Compared to everyone else I actually seem underqualified.

wow, everyone needs to chill. if you really were over-qualified you'll get into a better school than wash u and it shouldn't even matter at all. just wait a couple days, then you'll look back at the time you wasted b****ing on this board and laugh at and/or be ashamed of yourselves. if you weren't over-qualified then that sucks, but i bet that not even a fifth of the people wash u wait-lists stay on the waiting list.

Uhhhmmm...

Yeah, I have a 3.3 (weighted) G.P.A, a 500 on the math section on the S.A.T (my verbal score, however, was 740) and definitely blew my American History S.A.T II. I'm at the bottom half of my class. However, I got waitlisted at Wash. U. Which was totally unexpected. My parents made me apply there, and I didn't think I'd even get in. Of course, I did start/am the editor-in-chief of my school's magazine, got a 740 on my Literature S.A.T II, got a 4 (I didn't finish one of the essays due to a stupid mistake I made on the gridding) on my A.P English exam, and was in Johns Hopkins C.T.Y program for a couple years because of my verbal S.A.T score... You guys are all so much more qualified than me, I'll admit it. So how did this happen?

By the way, how many people are actually going to stay on the waitlist? I'm not sure whether it's worth it or not.

I'm at the bottom half of my class. (Of course, I do take MOSTLY honors classes, one A.P, and regular math... plus my school is really hard and has a different grading scale than most schools do...) However, I got waitlisted at Wash.
By the way, how many people are actually going to stay on the waitlist? I'm not sure whether it's worth it or not.

Waitlisted. 1390, 31. Tons of extracurriculars and rank was 8/400(roughly 400 kids). Good recommendations and essays. Sort of surprised. I "showed interest" and I really wanted to go. I guess it was luck of the draw, or rather bad luck of the draw, hah. I guess s**t happens though.

and BTW, was anyone, out of their 21,000 applicants straight up denied? I swear either you got in or you got waitlisted. So what would that be, 18,000ish on the waitlist? That's ridiculous if so. I'd say WU has reached their apex as far as rankings go, so this admissions game that they're playing over in Brookings Hall isn't going to help. They should just admit people they want, and deny anyone they don't, keep things simple.

i'm very proud of myself for starting this huge thread

I was interviewed AND I visited... I was waitlisted. I'm slowly getting over it. I'm still upset, though:(.

1470

Lots of ECs

Showed lots of interest..Visited, interviewed with an admissions rep, had contact with my admissions officer..Could not have shown more interest.

Good Recommendations.

I did not expect this. Two of my friends were also waitlisted, both of them with 1570's. One is a valedictorian and the other is a saludatorian. Both have been accepted to MIT.

same situation...
waitlisted, got into MIT. same thing for "rich jewish" person in my class as well.
(just to challenge a few stereotypes...although i don't challenge the fundamental assertion)
