waitlisted

I think WashU has some kind of vendetta against my school. Two years ago, they accepted about 15 people from my school and only 2 went on their free trip. And I think maybe 1 or 2 actually enrolled. So that's my theory on why they hate us...and me...:-)

Here's my take:

If you have HYPSM-quality stats and you apply ED, you're in.

Same stats, BUT you apply RD, you're waitlisted.

It's a totally rational strategy because they figure you really prefer HYPSM(or Duke, or some other), and since you have a good chance of being admitted to your Preferred school--WHY WASTE AN ADMIT ON YOU?

Can't really blame them. They probably have been stiffed BIG TIME by elite students year after year.

i agree..but if u look at the stats of the ppl theyve admitted on this board..its not just hyps(whatever m is..) caliber stats..its ppl with less.

Waitlisted
Stats
1500/800/760/760
104 w gpa ranked 3/520 ish
good recs, decent essays, lots of ec's, nat'l merit finalist, accepted to Rice ID
No visit to campus, no interview (that could be the reason)
urg, frustrated. . . . and they expect us to wait until June 30?!?! Don't think that'll happen.

M = Mass. Institute of Technology (MIT)

ok...how did i get accepted at cornell (sent a special early note in the mail so that i would "keep cornell in mind when making college decisions" ) but waitlisted at washington???
ah it's mind boggling
it really makes me worry about some of the other schools i applied to

...i actually didn't really show much interest either though....my father seems to think that wash has a rep for having a high percentage of accepted applicants accept admission....so perhaps they don't want to chance over qualified folks accepting admission at other schools...but i don't really know for sure.

I am curious--did you visit? send a first choice letter? show some special interest? Wash U wont waste an admission on someone they dont expect to enroll. Its not as if its your right to get accepted and schools know that people overapply. BTW, does Wash U ask you list other schools you applied to?

my friend was waitlisted, won't come out of her room...its really sad.

her stats-

SAT: 1590
GPA: 3.9..not really sure what it is weighted
Many cross country awards, every year had best grades in each class
National Merit
Award for most community service hours at our school
Rank: 1/57
Started up three clubs at our school dedicated to service
Internship in Thailand for hygiene program

I can't believe it...

readytoleavehs: if your friend had applied ED, she would be in.

I'm guess she didn't want WUSTL bad enough. She should come out of her room and collect a bunch of acceptance letters in a few weeks.

Did she apply early anywhere?

"readytoleavehs: if your friend had applied ED, she would be in."

for some of us less fortunate folks, that really isnt an option. we need money :)

kosuke: Does WUSTL have a reputation for stingy aid? I didn't know that.

waitlisted

3.8 W GPA/1510/760/750/730

was among top choices, but I'm over it

I really don't think she fell in love with the school until after she applied regular decision. Plus, like Kosuke said, she really couldn't afford to make that commitment. However, I do agree that she should come out of her room, but she only applied to three schools sincerely believing (perhaps overconfident) that she would be accepted at WUSTL. The other two are Harvard and UPenn...I'm hoping for the best for her.

"kosuke: Does WUSTL have a reputation for stingy aid? I didn't know that."

thats what ive been told. i dont know, ive always believed it for some reason...

QUOTE: She only applied to three schools sincerely believing (perhaps overconfident) that she would be accepted at WUSTL. The other two are Harvard and UPenn...I'm hoping for the best for her.

Please tell me this isn't true. How could her guidance counselor let her do this? Apply to only 3 schools, which are something like #1 #5 and #11? So 3 Reaches, no matches, no safeties??? This is not HER fault, unless she rejected the GC's advice.

Unfortunately it is true, and she rejected EVERYBODY's advice, but i'm not gonna judge her anymore because its just too late now. I mean our GC can't force people to apply to more matches or safeties and many people tried to tell her that these were tough schools. She was just really confident in her stats. I'm just praying that she gets in to one of those schools, but if she doesn't...i don't know.

hmmmm...waitlisted.....

1500
3.979 gpa, rank 4/364
recruited for soccer
good ec's
disappointing....

recruited, then waitlisted???? harshness.

readytoleavehs

Harvard, total crap shoot. She probably applied there EA and was deferred BUT she is definitely Harvard quality.

Penn, with her scores and ECs, she has a good chance

WUSTL-- when Wash gets stiffed by some top applicants (as it always is) space should open up on the waitlist--unfortunately that won't be until some time in May and that will be a painful wait.

I'm pulling for her. She a really high achieving student.

thanks joe...i'm pulling for her too, she has worked so hard all four years and really deserves a great school
